On Tuesday I packed and fuelled the camper ready for an early start on Wed morn.
I was itchin to get away.I finally got permission from air traffic control (the other half )
To take off at 07.30 am.
Cabin crew doors to auto------------
Cabin crew seats for take off----------
Varoom------------- I hit the road music on singing along, as I headed south west along the motorway from Belfast I noticed the fields were heavy with frost, it’s been a long winter and i was hoping for better weather. Awh so what I going fishing,I didn’t see the miles go and before long I was in lovely Enniskillen. Time for a coffee and a pee.
Cabin crew seats for landing------
Cabin crew doors to manual------ I grabbed two good looking air hostages and and headed off for coffee and stretch the legs. After refreshments it was fare thee well Enniskillen, then Belcoo, over the large lough Mcnean into Blacklion and the curious Co Cavan, headed west towards Sligo.
I thought to myself I have been this way so often lets try a different route.
So i hung a left and headed up the back of the Yeats country mountain.
It was a nice scenic drive as I headed into the village of Dowra and the lovely Co Leitrim.
Then down the western shore of the long lough Allen to the delightful Drumshambo village
I parked up in market area, ( never tie horse to close to water hole ) old indian trick, and walked to the pub. After a nice cool pint of Guinness, I headed west into the rural Co Roscommon and through the nice little villages of Kedew and Ballyfaron. Then i headed south into splendid Co Sligo and at last the lovely Lough Arrow.
My plan was to wild camp and hire a boat fit my engine and fly fish for wild Brown trout.
I always knew campervanning and fishing were a match made in heaven. And Bingo!
On the spot I picked to wild was a fellow motor homer and fisherman. Then double Bingo!
The guy who hired the boats was was also Craicer. After a long chat, motor home fisherman and camper van fisherman shared a boat and a great day fishing. That night I cooked a seafood curry, naan bread and basmati rice. He joined me and brought some fine red wine and few cans of Guinness.Great chat and Craic. The next day and fuzzy head, his friend arrived with his own boat and to stay with him overnight they fished together and left me the other boat. Our spot was five yards from the lake with beautiful views of the lake. A great days fishing was had by all with 2 large trout being caught and released unharmed.
The wildlife is abundant I saw Pheasants a variety of wild duck, swans, wild geese, hawks and the usual variety of wild birds. That night it was three of us for dinner we all mucked in and had an unusual mix of lamb chops, chips, whiting, and haddock, red wine, Guinness and craic hic! After another days fishing we headed home our separate ways. A great time was had by all.
Im not good at the photo thing lol.
