Just engines

Engines seem to be on a cycle, In my younger days we were constantly doing Engines in Diesel Land rovers and Opel Rekords, these vehicles would probably go through Two or Three engines in their lifetime, then things improved and vehicles went to the Breakers Yard with perfect engines and now we are back rebuilding Engines again. God be good to the days that you could fit a bale of hay at both sides of a Morris Minor Engine and close the bonnet, now you wouldn't fit a match box under the bonnet. Backwards we are going with modern technology and the amount of time involved removing parts to fit simple things that could be done in a few minutes in the past.

My dad had Minors for years. The first one had a split front windscreen. I remember on 2 different Minors the front wheel ralling off as he did a slow turn. Something about not greasing a joint

What about the Dolomite Sprint ?

Going back to Pat's point of engines going in cycles,and from talking to Daniel, he believes that because the auto industry went into liquidation near 10 years ago,the engines developed were not tested properly before been released onto the market place. The upside for him, is that he can knock a living out of this. He is rebuilding 3 transit engines a week. All of the ambulances that hse purchased in 2010/11 with imf money, the engines have been through his hands since .
The downside for me as a customer it the reliability of the same engine. But as my mammy said when I was a kid " there's no point of crying over spilt milk".

The other thing John was the front bumper on the earlier models had a little plate where the starting handle went in, was a result of them changing their mind and making the body a few inches wider.But they already ordered and taken delivery of thousands of bumpers so Issigonis had them halved and then made the little cover plate to hide the cut.
