Thinking of adding three batteries, why? well because I have a spare Leisure Battery.

Would this be beneficial or would they just take to long to charge back up again? thus defeating the purpose.

Hi Ally,
I would think that 3 might put two much of a strain on your charger, unless your like mark and have some sort of Solar Charger as a backup.

A backup Battery is always handy, you could charge it up before you go and carry it in the boot along with a set of Jump leads, handy for jump Starting.
You could all so add a small Inverter to run your Laptop, Etc.

I bought one of these a few years ago and find it very handy. (a lot cheaper than todays price)

Thanks Tom.

Yeah was beginning to think three might be a bit much without a solar panel. Not sure how long they would take to charge but I am sure it would be quite a while before all three regained full power.

Ta for the link, had a booster pack years ago but it gave up the ghost.

Yeah the booster pack I have came in handy a few times for me when I had to Pump up a soft tyre a while ago.
Also it Runs my Laptop, phone, Charges my flash light, and has a 350 watt Inverter. 8)

Ally, just spoke to a friend of mine who has a boat, on the subject of leisure batteries, and he has built his number up to six over the past few years as he does some long distance cruising. He said that the should be fine if the batteries are set up properly and all connections are good and tight. He did not fit any special charger or booster for this, he just runs the engine for a few hours to recharge them or if he is in a marina connects to the mains.
Hope this helps.

How many days are you thinking of being parked up with driving?

If you drive a reasonable distance every day or two your batteries should charge between stops.

If you are planning on being stationary without EHU for long periods then a bigger battery bank would be good.

When we do music festivals, I can be parked up for a week with no EHU.

Two might be enough, but I have a spare one so might as well use it, I have to keep it charged stored in the shed, so might as well make the use out of it and let the van charge it.

Have survived on one battery in a caravan for a week, but only using two lights for no more than an hour each day and charging phones.

The more batteries you have the more power you will have if you are using an inverter. All batteries should be the same amp/hrs and connected in parelel ie plus to plus and negative to negative. When connected together all batteries will have the same charge as they will draw from each other so you wont have aproblem charging them.An uprated altenater would help.I use a 75 amp solar panel which is flexi and is stuck to the roof.It keeps all my batteries charged and I never use a hook-up on campsites.I can run lots of appliances on 240volts through a 1000watt inverter and I can even run the fridge on 240 volts.

Hi Ally

Interested in what battery you got, mine need replacing and not sure what to get. The ones in the van are Varta which were in it when I got it and the numbers on them don't correspond to any new Varta ones. Not sure if they are leisure batteries or ordinary car batteries.
