Managing wifi/ internet connections

This is a bit of a non MH topic but maybe motorhome .
Been the season of giving and receiving, this year was a technology feast in this house. A ps4 upgrade by the young lad 2 weeks ago, using his own funds, and then the big fella with the white beard drop off a pc and laptop last night.
Currently our broadband is supplied by virgin media at a speed in excess on 250 mb.
The ps4 is linked to modem by a cat5 cable while everything else is on wifi.
The issue is that the ps4 is sucking the internet conection over all the other devices.
When the ps4 is switched off there is harmony is the house but then that ends when the cursed console is switched on.
Does anyone have a quick and easy solution?
Malcolm

Check it does not have automatic updates switched on the console by default - this downloads updates games & the machine in the background. Some downloads for games can be over 45gb! Do manual updates overnight if needed. Still, your internet speed should be well capable if handling that. Mine is more like 17mb.

There is usually a setting within the router for gaming consoles, I can’t remember the term for it, but it may need switched on or off to help the situation.

It can only use as much as it needs and no more. If your internet is that fast then you should be having no problems. I would suggest doing a speed test.

The only other explanation is you have been badly hacked and someone is leeching form you, but I doubt that.

with that speed internet, i am surprised you are even noticing it.

having said that, it is possible to program a "Mikrotik" router to allocate specific amounts of bandwidth to devices based on ip address.

they aren't expensive and will work perfectly, I would first check your incoming internet,

i would imagen that the ps4 did a massive update when first setup, was it allowed to finish ?

I been lazy about updating on this topic. The ps4 had to do a couple of massive updates along with a couple of other devices. While we had very good download speed, our upload speed was stuck in the stone age but a call to our service provider sorted that one out. The joys of marketing, selling one thing and forgetting about providing the other service needed. Hopefully now I will be able to upload photos onto mhc. Basically our upload allowance was very little.
Anyway a big thanks for the tips folks.
