I hope the members of Motor Home Craic will try their best and support the Club in its hope to show to the Councils of Northern Ireland our strength and courteous format of tourism which is strong and growing stronger monthly.
The Aires provided by Councils have shown their popularity and the growth in the regional tourism figures supports us...but the old saying 'the more the merrier.' will help those within The Motor Home Assoc lobby for More Aires through Out N Ireland and with this success hopfully Tourism Ireland will endorse Motor Home Tourism.
NITB Development Manager asked for Tourism Ireland to contact me and they have not.
I have asked the Tourism Minister to ask Waterway Ireland to acknowledge Motor Home Tourism financial support for their Marine services along the Shannon. This acknowledgement will convince
the Tourism sector that we do not need separate services at Marinas and the DARD Funding should be used by local Communities to Welcome Motor Home Tourism an answer that is long over due and I am lobbing hard for the answer.. Portglenne Community had asked the Regional DARD Officer for information on a aire in the Portglenone Forrest .. but.. the Marina
applied for extra funding for an aire de service with five motor home parking places.A gross waste of public money. The Marina services are usable by motor homes and the Marina could have had the bye law amended to allow for more motor home parking??? Why was this not encouraged there is a mistrust or worry how many motor home tourists tour N Ireland .I would like to know the amount requested from DARD for motor home facility and will be asking MLAs that are meeting with Motor Home Assoc members in August.
Broughshane Aire is the ONLY AIRE PROVIDED BY THE COMMUNITY and while staying at the aire a discussion occurred with a wide selection of motor home tourists .Those who did not need ,OR COULD USE the Unit bought tokens for the machine ,their way of giving to the local community.A charge was discussed and all agreed £5 a night was reasonable I agreed and support Broughshane in their charge. If we are to encourage Other Communities we NEED them to SEE the benefit for THEIR COMMUNITY.If you live in a Rural Area with a population of 4500 or less under DARD Funding your area is eligible for funding through DARD Regional Officers Office. As the case in Carrick Whitehead Ards etc the car park is owned by Councils who can easily adjust the Bye law forbiding over night parking and sleeping in a vehicle.
Motor Home Craic support The Motor Home Assoc and two members have volunteered to come along to meetings. This month we will meet with Mr David McCLARTY MLA who invited Minister Danny Kennedy MLA up to the North Coast in January .Sandra Overend MLA UUP tourism portfolio will be emailing suitable dates to meet with her at Stormont .We have some good MPs on our side .
Thank You Ally and all the club members for your support .
Kind Regards
Christine
