Transfer of ownership

I have a lad coming down from Belfast next weekend to pick his new VW camper.

What do I have to do to transfer ownership as it's leaving the state ?

Obviously I could call the Dept of transport in Shannon but I relish calling them about as much as I relish a root canal.

Do i give him the vehicle registration cert ? Is there a form for cancelling it's registration in ROI ?

Not done it that way round but have done the other way. He will need the registration certificate to register it in NI, he will also have to pay a fee of I think around £75 (unlike your nasty VRT!)

We have a section on ours that has to be filled in for export, I assume you don't?

No. There's only a change of ownership section.

I didn't want to give him the VRC in case I need it to cancel the registration.

Oh well, I suppose i'll have to call Shannon and probably get 3 different answers.

I wonder do you still use the older system we had here, where you applied for an export certificate and that's what you gave the new owner.

Not sure, looks Shannon is your answer:)

There are a few websites I found but they all relate to what people in the North need to do not what you would need to do.

I called Shannon and all they need is a letter with the buyers name and address. They send him a letter confirming the export and it's all done.

And best of all...no fees :-)
