Hi Tom, I used to ship out of Plymouth to Santander with furniture down to southern Spain . I liked Britany Ferries there were always clean cabins and good food. The only thing was as you round France into the Bay of Biscay you catch the Atlantic on the side giving you a roll. Always had Sturgeon sea sickness tablets in my pocket so no problem, used to watch the dolphins jumping the boats wake in the late summer ,lovely spectacle.
Just thinking that is a route we could take to Spain next year...maybe bit too much for dog...could sedate her.
Then I read:
>>The only thing was as you round France into the Bay of Biscay you catch the Atlantic on the side giving you a roll. Always had Sturgeon sea sickness tablets >>.
I get seasick just thinking about rough sea. I remembered 40 years ago we were in Bay of Biscay on a cargo ship (wives could go deep sea) It was an experience! The kind you laugh about afterwards!
Hopefully in 40 years, ships particularly Ferries are more stable. Can this rough sea be any time of year?
thanks folks for the info. the weather can be good or bad in the bay. i used to fish down that way years ago ,and we had some lovely trips. we fished for tuna a few hundred miles west off la coruna on the n/w coast of spain.im just trying to plan my route for next year to spain. looks good , 24 hour trip and save 1000km on diesel. how bad. thank,s again folks.

is the plymouth-santander a longer journey time wise, than the portsmouth-bilbao route. i see that it takes 24 hrs to bilbao. do the prices generally stay the same or do they vary at times,ie. special offers.
thanks for the info[witzend]. which ship is on that route,i see some of the ships have outside decks and some inside. i like to see you flying the CORNISH flag,i recognised it from some of the newyln fishing boats that call into dunmore east at times.
