Hello

Have any of you heard of France Passion?
Have ye ever done it before? If ye did what was it like?
We are going over to France in June 2018 from Rosslare to Roscoff,
We will go as far as La Rochelle,
I’m still researching it all, coz it’s our first time in France in motorhome,
So we are going to stop off at Aires and France Passions on the way..

Have you also checked out ACSI.eu for Camping Card discount, max you will pay is €19 a night for pitch, EHU and showers.
There are only 16 sites in Ireland, but lots more in Europe on excellent sites.
As you are going in June you will have the discount you only pay full price in early July to last week in August.
You get 2 books, and you can also get an App, and it pays for itself after a few nights.

I got the 2017 book just for the nose to see what it’s like,
Iv orderd the 2018 one last week,
I’m going to bring over small bottles of whiskeys as a thank you as well,
The book was kinda hard to find where the France Passion sites where,
The only thing I wonder about is are they in the middle of no where?

That a nice idea the whiskey,quite a few people do something similar. have you got the map as well as the book ?. I use google maps to look at the sites when I find a likely spot. it is a bit confusing until you get the hang of it. If you happen to be around the Hook this Sunday/Monday we will be down, give me a shout and ill go trough it with you.

The nature of France passion is that they are rural since the vast majority are farms and vineyards. We simply put the lat and long into the tomtom. It must be said that some approach roads can also be single track etc. I totally agree with the info given by sprinter. We have bought the book every year for about 6 years now and take the view that with ACSI discount sites, all the Aires, France passion and the website searchforsites we have a good palette of choices.

Heartily recommend the ACSI discount book as well. Be aware that most site discounts finish at the end of June, although there are exceptions. So if you decide to buy, use a couple of their sites before that date to recoup your money.

BE CAREFULL if you decide to buy ACSI for 2018 they now produce a book of sites ‘aimed’ at the British and Irish traveller entitled ACSI campsite guide. It concentrates on France, spain, Portugal and Uk and ireland. However not all are participants in the discount scheme. Compare the two books here

I have found that the Aires are so plentiful in France along with municipal sites that it’s more than enough for our needs. We have found some beautiful Aires on our travels.

Ya I had a look through the Aires book, some of them has electric and toilets,
And are in nice villages, I heard some people say stay away from motorway Aires,

Pamela, don’t rely on getting electric, especially at the busier Aires. Equally the quality of toilets can be varied, so work on the basis that you are self sufficient and anything else is a bonus.

Motorway Aires are perceived to be more risky in terms of robbery and breakins. Some people do use them, but apart from anything else they can be noisy with trucks. I certainly don’t use them. There will be a much nicer village Aire probably quite near.

As the fat controller stated, municipal sites are another good option.

Def dont use motorway aires to overnight in, they are for resting and say a bite to eat/drink/leg stretch before moving on. I have yet to use electric on the aires but always get to empty my waste and if suitable take on fresh water.

If you are in the more popular areas eg close to the ferry ports, main attractions etc the aires fill up early and can be quite busy, some of the more remote ones are the best.

If you ask on here some of the more experienced French travellers can give personal recommendations if you know where you are going to be.

Pamela as you are going as far as La Rochelle be sure to go to Ile d’Re. You go by bridge across from La Rochelle, lots of cycle lanes if you bring your bike..

It's extremely busy, so you'll need to book. Last year we stayed just south of La Rochelle. Think it was called Chatelaillon plage. A lot quieter, nice beach, lovely market and a train to La Rochelle.

Concur, definitely see the Ìlė-de-Ré
One of our favourite places to visit, aire about half a mile over the bridge at 2nd roundabout, it’s right on beach. Be busy at that time of year and probably full.

I have to agree the amount of Aires and quality of most means i rarely use anything else. The odd time i would go onto a vineyard for tasting and stay a night or two but apart from that its Aires for me.

There is a Michelin guide camping France that has a section for short and long tours, giving where to stop,what's to see and time and distance .can be good if you like a more structured trip,for the first timers ,takes a lot of the research and planning out of a trip.
For me,sometimes I really don't know where I am going until we get off the boat.

It is apparently the last one to be published in English. They say that 2018 one will not.
To be honest I think that's only until they sell off all the 2017 guide's.

Hi , yes we used France Passion a bit last year when away during June and July. We staid at a few vineyards in the Loire Valley and Bordeaux but had some issues with GPS coordinates being off. The problem is, most are in odd locations. Little villages or middle of no-where spots.
I didn't renew my subscription this year and will use ACSI camping card sites and a few Aires during our month in France and Italy. I like the security of a site and the hook up so I don't mind paying between 13€ and 19€. Many sites are low rate until around the 7th of July. After that we will use Aires.
Have great tour.
