Quite a few on here have booked already. We are booked with Irish Ferries who usually do 10% discount and €100 deposit. The discount could be available till January, but it is sometimes extended.
We book early as the 2 berth cabins, which are the cheapest, tend to be first to fill. We tended to travel 1st June to end July which can be high demand periods.
As a precaution we always take the flexibility option as it is difficult to predict circumstances 10 months ahead.

I think it all depends on the time of the year, main holiday times I think you should book early. I was lucky with regard to price this year. I booked on the 11th of April to sail Rosslare - Roscoff on the 11th May and returned from Roscoff on the 22nd June. The price was €410.00 including 2 berth cabin and the flexibility option. I was pleased with the price. This was for me and my wife.

We also have IF's booked for next September, however I couldnt book the Dublin/Cherbourg route probably because of the new ship that is due to arrive next summer. Took flexi both ways with the hope that we could change to the new ship, if it arrives on schedule.

WE booked ours for May 2018 a week ago so we could get a 2 star cabin back at the end of June or the prices rocket.

Sorry i hit something early and posted and cant edit. As mentioned above accommodation is the main problem when wanting to return at the end of June before summer pricing kicks in or go out at the end of August as prices drop, We have done 2 trips a year for 6 years now, we book flexi just encase for €15 each way and have used the edit a few times once due to bad weather. They lash down lorries but not car or campers .
We got an Irish seas offer for 2018 and the ferry with accommodation with flexi both ways was Booking Total: 392.40 EUR from Rosslare
Have not booked the Autumn trip yet but reading above from Mark will look at it.
