We are hoping to go to the Bordeaux region in France early September. I've only been there once a few years ago to,pick the Mehari up. Any information would be greatly appreciated particularly if there's an Aire of Camping site near to Bordeaux Airport. All other information would be appreciated.

It's one area that I've only been to once for a few days and always wanted to go back to sample some more of their REDS.

In Bordeaux today, well Cognac to be exact. Done the tour of the brandy distillery where we are staying tonight. Took the scenic route thru the vineyards today and it's on a scale that I did not comprehend. Massive.
Very poor 3G here tonight, post pics tomorrow...... sampling yet, need to lie down I think !

There is no shortage of lovely aires in this region, all well signposted. We stayed in a very large one in Lacanau (towards the sea) a few years ago. It should be much quieter in September. Whatever you do, don't miss a trip to Saint-Emilion (direction Libourne) it's just fabulous and a must if you're a red wine fan 😉

Oh yeah. Red wine is my favourite and I've been told that's the region to go to.

If you do go to St. Emillion, drop into Paddy O'Flynn in The Wine Buff. He has a great selection of wines and you can try them all before buying. He is very generous with the tastings and has even delivered our wine to the van which is very handy!

If you are heading to St Emilion there is an Aire 5 mins drive away in Chateau Gerbaud in St. PEY d'Armens. Lovely place to park and his wine is excellent.

Hi there,

on our trip to France last year we collected my mother from Bordeaux airport in our motorhome. For any of you who wish to do this in the future here is how you can manage it.

Firstly, you cannot stop in front of the airport building - only airport bus can get kerbside. Parking areas P1, P2, and P3 have height restrictions. So head to the P4 long term car park. It is served by a direct shuttle to and from the airport terminal and the bus runs every 15 mins.

P4 was pointed out to me by a fellow motorhomer who spotted me doing my second drive around trying to find a place to park up. He stuck his head in the window while I paused at pedestrian crossing outside the airport to let people cross. He told me about P4. When I got to the barrier at P4 I made an attempt to go into the car park but as I approached the entrance ( no height barrier ) I noticed there would be very very little, or no space, given my width including mirrors ( I have a Hobby on an 06 Ducato ). So I reversed back. However all was not lost. As you will see from the attached photos there is adequate space next to the barriers for one vehicle to stop. I parked there and stayed with the wagon while my wife and daughter caught the bus to the terminal. The bus stop faces the barriers.

Hope some people find this useful in future.

Cheers,

Mack.
