OK - after we can stop Hessy (Today - success)
Time now to see where we are going so we can use the brakes correctly!!

Bought one of those Headlight LED Bar thingies (5 zillion watts I think) and sticking her out front of the unit.

The questions are
"has anyone plumbed these into the main head beam switch before" and the second question
"in doing so - would this be an issue with the MOT?"

Should I stick it on a separate switch>>?

I reckon the mot boys might not be impressed.
The safest way to wire up this bar is to use a relay which is switched on by the main beam but uses it own fuse and separate power source. The relay can be switched on by conecting into the full beam light on the dash display.
Pull the fuse before the mot, kill everything and becomes a feature on your bumper.

Have to agree, if it lights up at mot time then it needs to meet the light test, which it won't

Suggest you also put on ON/OFF switch on the dash so that you can decide if you want to use them or not in conjunction with the main beam.

I know a security company who use them on their site patrol vans. They are very bright, in fact painful to look at from 50m.

Any lights above bumper do not need a different switch from the full beam & are not tested as part of the MOT, I speak from having Jeeps with different light set ups over the years & no problems, Any thing below bumper level need a switch off in the cab as they are taken as fog lights, also any on the roof have to be switched as well...

Not to be pedantic but most vehicle lights are above the bumper and they get tested! I always thought that if any lights were fitted then they got tested.

On anything I've took in they only tested the headlights, & that includes a jeep with 4 spots on an up & over set which 2 of the lights were above the bonnet level, never looked at them...

Only other thing about any extra lights fitted they must all be working even if they are just extra spot lights etc...

There is a big difference between a led light bar and a number of spot lights due to the led intensity. An example is meeting a runner at night with led head lamp blinding you at 50 metres verus one with a traditional torch . Come to think of it,new trucks are still using spot lights instead of led bars.
Down here in the south a rsa roadside inspection or a traffic garda stop would leave you standing on the hard shoulder if you were caught using led bar at night
