If you are comfortable fitting and setting them up, these units have amazing features for the price. From your phone you can: sound the horn, cut off fuel, listen in on the vehicle plus more. You can set a huge range of alerts such as door open, ignition on, battery low or disconnected. It of course has all the usual tracking, speed and geofencing abilities too.

Very good unit, but it's better to go a few more bob and get the TK103B that had the remote control to set the system.

That's interesting. Does the disarming the unit reduce the power consumption? I found the parasitic draw quite high on the one I had in my van. Not a major worry but might have been if I left the van untouched for weeks.

I really don't know, remember reading the mA draw as being quite low but never measured it under armed/disarmed conditions. Next rime I'm in there I'll throw the ammeter in series with the unit and measure it to see the draw. It is a very effective unit with superb features for a small price.

Bought one of these and was wondering if anyone knew of the best deal for a pay as you go Sim in the Republic.
Is there any Sim available that you don't have to top up every month or will you lose your credit if you don't top up in the 30 days or will your sim become inactive if you don't top up.

I use Tesco Mobile on them and works perfectly. Just top up whenever you need it.

I think with vodafone payg sim, if you top up with 5euro it will last 6 months..just saw a gps magnetic tracker in the farmers journal and looked it up on farmstuff.ie and cost 219 and another 249euro. very expensive. Checked aliexpress.com....a chinese website that i purchase alot of various things on and prices were alot cheaper..25 upwards ..not sure of the quality.

Thinking of getting on as there are reports of some of our ""close cousins" around Limerick very interested in obtaining motorhomes and i live quite close to some of those same cousins! Have our motorhome at another location at the moment, getting it tomorrow to sort for the road next, but am very nervous about having it at our house. It will be at back of house, but if they know its there, a gate isnt going to stop them taking it.

anyway thats my rant for today

Take one wheel off and leave the van on an axel stand. Hide the wheel. Your close cousins dont like a bit of hard work.

tried that but I found the steering a bit hard should I have done it with a back wheel

I fitted a battery kill switch on the earth strap for the engine battery. Our bus is a transit so the battery is under the drivers seat. Turn it off and remove the key. The missus hates it, clock on the dash needs resetting, some radio stations etc. 20 euro and van is imobilisered.

I got one of these wired ones from ebay a few weeks ago and i'm pretty impressed with it. For just over a tenner, it's a bargain. This one is going on my motorbike once I've gained some confidence in it.



I'm just weighing up the advantages of the dearer ones, especially those with a remote. With the dearer ones (€20-€30) I like the options of being able to send a "disable engine" signal to the tracker, and I also like the external antennas of the ones discussed in this thread. Ideal for fitting discretely to a camper...

You can set it when leaving the van by remote to trigger a response if a door is opened and alert you. It’s also easy to put a reed switch on hab door/locker/bike loop/top box and even a PIR to trigger an alert. It can be deactivated by remote on return.

I like that.

Also, re the remote. By deactivating it, can you save on the false alerts, say if you're touring in the vehicle and every time you move off, you wont get a text to say you've moved from the geofence? (If you've set one up)...?

Yes,
I have mine set to geofence at 100 metres, this saves false alarms if you set it tighter than that, allowing for GPS accuracy and selective availability being active.
Yes, the remote allows you to disarm the unit before opening doors.
I’ve mine wired to an alarm siren too for extra security.
The engine stop is sent by text, you text stop****** (*=password) to the unit and the engine stops, text resume***** and it can be restarted.
You can monitor the sounds from inside the cab with the mike (supplied).
Superb little unit for little money, reccomended.

Just had a quick check Kevin and found that unit can be controlled via an app. Never looked at this before but will mess around with it to see. There seems to be multiple apps available for the TK range of trackers. Interesting.

Must admit don't like the engine stopbit
say it is doing 80 down motorway, stop engine don't do it no good and any body near liable to finish off the bodywork

I got a quote today for fitting a tracker etc to the motorhome. Just wondering what others think of it. It is £10 plus vat pm and £150 plus VAT for the tracker and fitting. All comments most welcome.

Jack. Check out the TK102 tracker it’s cheap and you can buy a car charger for it. There is no annual payment. The instructions are a bit complicated but you can get a manual online

Jack, I fitted a streetwize unit. Came with a 12v charger that I connected to a spare 12v fed in the van. It was about £35. You then insert a payg SIM card. Then when you text a certain code to the devise, it replies with the location, speed and direction of he van. I just need to remember to text every couple of months to ensure that the SIM card is not switched off by Vodafone. Not sure what benefit there is to having a company monitor the system, unless it automatically alerts them that the vehicle has been stolen. I think that the only system that the psni can follow is the official TRAcKER. They are a bit more expensive. Mark

I'm not sure I'd bother with a monitored service Jack. It's only adding un-necessary expense on yourself. Most trackers can be set up to send you a text any time the camper moves, giving you speed, coordinates and a map. Even the cheap €10 trackers found on ebay do this. I have one on my motorbike. As Mark said, you only have to make sure to ping the tracker every so often to make sure it's stays in credit.

One downside worth keeping in mind about the trackers, is the organised thieves can also buy gps blockers (on eBay) to disable trackers. I recently heard about a group of organised motorbike thieves were caught and they had several signal blockers in their posession. The more expensive units may not be suceptible to this.
