Just got this reply from the Visit Waterford website, where I had congratulated them on the new Waterford-Dungarvan cycleway, whilst bemoaning the fact that Waterford City is a no-go area for motorhomers......

"Dear Gary

Many thanks for your message to Visit Waterford.

Waterford City & County Council intends to provide 6 - 8 camper specific spaces in Miller's Marsh Car park (which is the city centre) before this summer along with a similar number at the WIT West Campus Greenway Car park. We're separately installing a waste water disposal facility for campers at the RSC on the Cork Road and again this facility will be in place within the next six weeks or so.

Depending on the demand and experience this year, we may extend these arrangements (possibly with some services) to either the Bolton St or Waterside carparks for next year - both of these are effectively construction sites at present and wouldn't be available in the current year.

Kind regards etc..."

Maybe things are looking up in the Sunny South-East at last?......

Great news ain't it!

Another craic'er had sent this to us "chalkey" and we were in contact with them before releasing it on MHC as they were looking for some advice on services.

We hope to have more information soon, I have passed all details on to Colin McCArthy who is better placed to advise in that locality.

Well done Waterford if you consider the amount of motor homes which drive past Waterford on the way to cobh it will be a welcome stop over and good for waterford

Let us all hope that motor -homers display good conduct and give the local authority no reason to have concerns. it only takes one or two people to spoil the image for all. And don't forget go to Waterford and spend some money in local shops etc.

If we could only get the OPW to take a leaf out of Waterford's book it would be great they have some lovely sites , one of which is Mount Congreve Gardens, has the new green way and the Waterford Suir Valley light Railway running along side it .

A spin on the light rail and a visit to the gardens are two things well worth doing, if down that way on a visit .

Dont know about the city, but Dungarvan has good parking down at the harbour overlooking the sea. Always campers there, and as far as i know they have opened up the cycleway as far as Tramore, supposed to be lovely.

Where at the Harbour I was under the impression they did not want any parking other then in the Campsite ?
Last time I was down there in February I went into the Car park above the Harbor and next morning I was told by a Local Motorhome owner that I was lucky the barrier was open and asked did I not have anyone call to tell me not to park there .

When you arrive in Dungarvan from the Waterford side, if you were to go down to Quay Street, its on google maps, you will see the long lanes marked for parking on the sea front. There are 8 of them and they are used by camper vanners for parking overnight.
Quay Street itself is Directly towards the Tannery restaurant from the square, but im not sure if its a one way system or not. If you cant drive down it, theres a right hand turn at the Tannery, and then a left that will bring you down to it im njearly sure.
check it out first.

Safer to come through the town from the bridge. Meagher st, through the town square with the car park. Straight on down St. Mary street. At end turn left and immediately right into Boorenatra. Turn left at the sea front and parking on left, a few hundred metres along. Locally called the lookout, it backs onto a small park. Avoid the bus parking spots, rumour has it that you could be ticketed.

Our first visit brought us past the quayside. Narrow streets etc made it a bit exciting.

Well folks, six months on has the Miller Marsh car park been opened for motorhomes?
I am planning on visiting Waterford next Saturday with a few mates. I would pefer to know the lie of the land there beforehand as we don't want to land and be disappointed.
Thanks Malcolm.

We stayed in te Bolton Street car park on Saturday 30 September 2017. It's a euro per hour up to 6.30 pm and then free overnight until 8.30 am. Sunday is free parking all day. A lovely quite place just a 5 minutes walk to the main attractions in Waterford city. I have posted a review on the app.

There are no options with electric hookup around Waterford city, as far as I know.
The nearest campsite that might take a booking is Treegrove in Kilkenny, 40 minutes up the road.
80% of Irish campsites have closed up shop for the winter.

The Marina maybe? they have EHU. Not sure of the logistics of access.
http://www.waterfordcouncil.ie…arinas.htm

You could always give them a ring and state your case as a one off. Pay the visitors fee as a boat maybe.

Kieran. to give you more accurate advise it would help to know.
when are you likely to be doing this, what day of the week, is it the evening before with an early appointment and what direction are you coming from.
