Top 3 Sites and Why?

Interesting question. Our current top 3 are:

Rancho Reillys - Loads for the kids to do from morning till night. Very relaxing site and run by very nice people.
Loughcew Megalithic Centre - Nice site, very relaxing and there is something for us and for the kids. Again run by very nice people.
Dundonal Caravan Site - So much activity for both kids and adults within a very short walk.

Third place was a close call between Dundonald and Woodlands in Tralee.

However, the more we travel the more great sites we find

Agree interesting question and whilst you may get some consistent answers highlighting some top 3 sites it may not tally with your own opinion of the top 3 sites.

There are certain things that most people do want from a campsite but equally others may want to be on a remote site, very quiet and peaceful but others may want to be close to shops restaurants and pubs, we are all different.

On our winter travels we often bump into people (not literally) who tell us where we really should go, their favourite place in Spain, Portugal, France etc but sometimes when we arrive at these places we wonder if we must have annoyed them and they have sent us to a horrible place to get their own back.

I have only stayed on 3 other sites in Ireland so I could give you my top 3 but it would only be based on the 3 sites I have stayed on so not really a good representation.

I couldn't agree more.
We have visited site which were highly recommend and thought "what were they thinking". LOL
Hessy has asked to say why in the original post and that part of the reply is crucial in my opinion.

Thanks I thought that the reasoning might spark interest with those who wouldn't usually try a particular area or discover an new potential like normally missed.
My choices are so far:
Dowlings - Why - Pitched at seaside, {Beach , Fishing, Swimming} Kees Hotel next door {Entertainment}, wonderful chippy {Speaks for itself}
Castlewellan - Why - Pitched in Courtyard, Wonderful lake walks / cycle - Peaceful, tranquillity,
Ballycastle - Why = Pool, Bar, Seaside not far away.

From this thread I am to try Woodlands, need a few long weekends away this year - so I want to drive no further than 5 hours from Belfast and pitch up and chill.

I also have to totally agree (although the kids wont). Finding a balance it the tricky bit, somewhere that is quiet and peaceful but has something for the kids. We find that Rancho's and Louchcrew do that for us at the moment.

At the minute
No.1 ballyness in bushmills
No.2 wavecrest in caherdaniel (we were there for storm katie in 2016 and we still loved it.
No 3. Just returned from woodlands in tralee, lovely site and very accessible to the town.

Ballyness for the perfect facilities and close proximity to the beautiful tourist spots, and lovely portrush. Even in the pouring rain.
Wavecrest because it was wild and rugged in the middle of a storm and yet the beach at derrynane was like abroad. Also recommend the blind piper pub for food and drink.
Woodlands just because it's within walking distance to the aquadome and wetlands a must with an 11 year boy on board.
