Truma gas heater not firing

Hi guys,
I have a Trumatic 3002P gas heater. The one where you have to press the igniter button to fire it (no batteries involved). Its just not firing. I think the gas is OK, every other gas appliance else works OK, including the water heater right beside it. Looking in the small inspection window at the bottom of the heater, I'm not seeing a spark when I press the igniter, so I suspected the igniter was faulty. I've replaced it and still no joy. Just from reading up, my next idea is to take off the inspection window and move the electrode closer - it may have shifted too far back, thus not causing the spark. But this is all I can think. Should I definitely be seeing this spark in the window? Any other suggestions?

thanks

I've often found the high tension lead from the piezo going down through the floor to the spark unit gets chaffed and shorts out to ground against the heater body...... worth a check.

Thanks JJF. How would I go about diagnosing\fixing this? Heading away in 10 days in the camper (need the heating!), not enough time to take it to a repair centre. I wouldn't touch the gas side of it myself, but hopefully can tackle this.

I'm not totally sure to be honest. After getting my new piezo switch I had been trying to fire it with the front lid sitting out from the main unit. A really helpful service fella in Donaghys told me the lid had to be on to properly earth it so that spark would properly go - so I'm guessing it was a combination of a faulty piezo first, then me not properly testing afterwards.
