thats fairly clear then, if your MH is over 3.05t and UNDER 12m the speed limit is 70/60/50(motorway/dual carraigeway/other road), where as in the car it is 70/70/60. But the overriding thing is we should only be going as fast as the conditions permit.

55mph is the most economical speed to be travelling along at (check it with GPS) as your speedo may be off, so if you drive economically it shouldn't affect you much.

Don't forget it's the unladen weight of 3050kg that's the deciding factor. Most manufacturers don't provide this figure. I would think that there are some 3500kg gross weight motorhomes that are around 3050kg unladen.
Ive a 1.9turbo diesel - on a good day with a following wind I might just break the 30MPH speed limit.
I thought it was slow until I fitted the satnav which told me that the speedo over read by 7mph across the range - absolute maximum true speed is just a touch over 62MPH!!!!!!!

That's what speed I sit at, but there is always the time you are in a hurry, good to know the limits.

2.5TD here, will easily do 80MPH, but the fuel needle goes down to fast!

Brochure weights sound good
Always providing that they are for the same model of course, seems a bit odd that the brochure and VIN plate differ quite so much. What MH is it?

Here in the South the law is different, all motor caravans, irrespective of GVW, are subject to the same limits as cars.
This is due to a lacuna in our laws which require vehicles over 3,500kg GVW to observe 'special' speed limits not having motor caravans included in the categories of vehicles listed as being subject to the regulation.
Is it on the 1990's Talbot/Fiat chassis? I didn't think that could be plated up to 4600kg except maybe on the Al-Ko chassis, the brochure figure of 3100kg sounds more like it. Is the 4600kg the GTW rather than GVW?

our motorhomes now have to go through NCT in the Republic. We got ours done in March and had to get it redone as the unladen weight was 3500kg cost an extra €100 aprox after getting cert from motor tax office, and it is now in a different category (>3500kg <7500kg). We knew that it was this and thank goodness we both have the "C" category licence. The upshot of this we checked today from the RSA( Road Safety Authority) and it is the legal limit here that veheicles of our weight category must drive at 80km per hour on all roads except where speed limit is lower. UK is different and France.
France has different speeds across the different roads but must check it out later

First, the RSA are wrong.
Just like back in 2009 when they said roadworthiness testing was the law for motor-caravans because they hadn't read the regulation they were quoting they haven't read the 80kph regulations either. Why don't you read it yourself and see that the type of vehicle which a motor caravan is is not included in the type of vehicles subject to the 80kph limit ROAD TRAFFIC (ORDINARY SPEED LIMITS — BUSES, HEAVY GOODS VEHICLES, ETC) REGULATIONS 2008.
Secondly I don't understand the 'extra €100 after getting the cert, comment. The cost of the test is €70.86 plus VAT and the cost of the cert from the Tax Office is €6 regardless of the GVW.

I got penalty points recently for doing 93km/h in a 100km/h road in my camper and it is under 3500kg. when I sent in proof that it was under 3500kg they took back the points.
