Lukers Shannonbridge

Just spent a great night in Shannonbridge. Drive down behind to Tourist Office beside the river. I checked in the Tourist Office if it was OK as there were signs saying No Caravans, No Camping.
They said it was fine, and sold tokens for the showers. The toilets are free. You can fill up with water.

Lukers Pub next door is a fantastic place, hundreds of years old and in parts unchanged. There's a terrace with superb views across the river to the Old Fort. The owner John is very keen to welcome motorhomes and has said that motorhomers are always welcome to park in his grounds if there isn't room to park beside the river.

If there are a few vans there he will let you use a BBQ to cook your sausages etc. Although the old part of the pub is not currently used as a public bar, it is like a museum piece and John shows people around. There are plans to get it cleaned and ready for use this month. There's a piani in the pub too, and musicians are always welcome.

Super spot !! Killeens pub down the road is something special too. A shop and a pub together selling everything from fishing tackle to pipes. At night the grocery counter becomes a bar counter. It was featured on 3 men in a boat a few years ago. Not much else going on in the town but its well worth a visit for the pubs alone. Never thought to stop near the river there. Cheers for the reminder, well definately head there for a couple is nights soon.

Hi guys,

Just as an update to these posts, Lukers opened up a restaurant in the old part recently and the food is yum. They are extremely MH friendly, JohnJo will let you use the back yard to park if no space down by the pier and as already stated water and bathroom facilities are already in place for the boats. Great music on every weekend and lovely friendly staff. As we arrived too late for food in Lukers on the Saturday night we walked over to the Stone Fort - the large heritage building on the Connaught side - to sample their fare and it was also second to none. (Although more expensive - more of a special occasion place)
Some lovely walks and cycles also in this area for those so inclined.

I have not been down there for years, but it was always very very friendly. I got a tour of the place and it was a real reminder of my childhood, right down to the old bakalite light switches. Coincidentally, I just said over the last few days that a trip to Shannonbridge would be nice, but I was wondering if the pub was still open. Great to hear it is.
Just back from France so need to follow up on MotorhomeC. Issues

Enjoy, had a lovely night there Sat just gone. When in Killeen's the barman gave us a wooden T puzzle to solve, it drove us insane for 1/2 an hour.

Parked up by the side of the boats. Lovely quiet spot; facilities dated and barely adequate [looks like cleaner person is on their holidays]. Meals in Luker's very nice. Recently remodelled with big windows overlooking the river. Landlord plans to install hookups in his lower garden. Don't park at far end in front of locked gates, held up a farmer trying to get in to mow his grass!
