Gas heating.

Leaving it on while parked up.

I have been reading I think on here someone said they leave gas heating on in van over winter they were commenting how it just uses in or around 1 fill,

My query is as our van is parked on our drive on a fair slope and not level so I think that it
Would be unsafe to leave heating on in this position.
Would just like 100% clarity. 🇧🇭

Get one of the 800 watt oil filled electric radiators in B&Q which are ideal to take the chill off in the van and keep it dry. That's what I use.

I too have a fairly steep drive and in the past I've left it on a low setting in very cold weather and it's been fine.

I would think that the van should be level for the flame to be in the right position, same as the fridge on gas.

Plugged in all the times, for years. No batteries problems in my experience.
Likewise I use an oil filled small radiator, but not on all the time. I also have a dehumidifier on in very wet weather.

On a slope the flame may not be aligned properly with the target, so it would depend on the system and whether it can tolerate this safely, I suppose. Fridges on gas don't do well when operated on a slope.

A drained system, ventilation when possible and a bit of heat to keep the air temp above dew point (condensation) is the objective in a camper I suppose.
I use an 80W sealed tubular heater from Argos (Winterwarm WWTH2FT 0.08kW Tube Heater. 395/6625) in the campers on a thermostat set for about +6C.
Also, use a small dehumidifier in the camper on a timer set to operate for about 2.5 hours per day.
Dunno if this is the best setup but has been ok for many years.....so far!

I think that was me ,my Motorhome has a winter setting in the heater so it only comes on when the temp drops to about +2 there is also a sensor which tells the heater what temp is in the van,it is also a safety thing that if the temp drops to below -4 a valve opens and dumps the water in the system to stop any frost from damaging the heater it took a while to work out the best way to to leave the gas on all the time but the tank I'm using has been in since before Xmas it is getting low but still going

HI if you are using a Propex type heater it will not make any difference if the van is on a slope as the gas flows directly into the blast tube.the same should apply to gas fridges.

I have one of these and did use it somewhat in my first motorhome for first winter.
Since then I have never used anything
Just make sure the van is well winterised basically make sure all water is drained down

I do take it out for a 20 to 30 mile drive to every second week and if I was going to use it for camping during the cold weather we would put an electric heater in it to "air" it out and take away the cold feel.

I also keep it plugged in a lot to keep the batteries charged
