Posted to it tonight - we are closing it.

Quote
This FACEBOOK PAGE IS CLOSING. Motorhomecraic is not a Facebook group, it is a PROPER Forum & website. Facebook has too many limitations and is useless for information and in depth information and discussions. There is a VERY ACTIVE community on Motorhomecraic.com and all that information is FREE, all you have to do is register. So in MARCH 2017, this PAGE will no longer exist and we hope you join us on a real website with real information, real security, NO SPAM, NO Data Collecting COOKIES, no shared information. No real name required, NO phone number required - all information kept secure. We will also be upgrading Motorhomecraic.com to new software that will make it really unbelievable in terms of technology and how it works on Phones, Tablets, Laptops, PC's, and all that we hope will happen in January 2017. See you all on a Proper Forum - motorhomecraic.com !!!

Didn't expect such a positive response :)

Few complaints on FB but more likes than complaints.

Posting links to MHC posts on FB brings people to them, but it serves no purpose they are not members, they won't register and so they can't and won't reply. Been doing a bit of an experiment over the last few months and watching google analytics, Facebook page is pretty useless and of no benefit to us. So shut it down and put more time into the forum :)

Didn't even know you have/had an FB page. No complaints from me. In general, I don't like FB at all but I have to say that the Scottish Wildcamping group is a super resource if visiting Scotland.

It's only recently I discovered MC had a FB page. I use it quite a lot but I can see where Ally is coming from and I totally agree with him. I'm glad MC is concentrating on this Forum.

Have to agree it's a great resource and why I posted it to MHC many moons ago.

But it still fails on it's Facebook enormous weaknesses, which I don't need to reiterate :)

I suppose it holds itself as it covers one subject only, Parking. Even though that information disappears faster than Jimmy Saville outside a primary school.

I am currently registered with several facebook motorhome forums and find them extremely useful, due to the broad user numbers I have found feedback to be very helpful. The idea is to take the information needed and ignore the rest.

Dan,

It's strange, anytime I have met you I have always agreed with you and I must add, I find you a very nice chap ;)

Amazing how we have so much of a difference of opinion online, nothing wrong with that of course, each to their own. I just find it interesting.

Text has no body language - a great failing of internet type.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I posted this topic, not to get into a debate, but to propose my intentions. But I do agree with you on one thing - facebook can very helpful.

The Motorhome facebook groups can be helpful if you need a quick fix or a quick bit of information, or instant gratification for some. But that is not what MHC is, it is a forum, a community, in depth topics and discussion, also a large bit of craic.

So Facebook doesn't work for MHC, it is not the correct format.

I could go on and on and on and on and on about the reasons why Facebook is the downfall of the internet but I have done that before, so i won't bore you ;)

But one thing that I must point out. Facebook information is not searchable, it is not indexed by any search engine, it is only available to those in that group - so therefore it is useless for future purposes and a wider audience, useless to newbies searching for information, useless to anyone searching for help on google for that broken Motorhome boiler and the exact reason why the same question gets asked over and over and over and over.

I agree and I should really have qualified that with it is a super resource but it would be so much better if it was a site like MHC.

Our FB group went last week, or week before? anyhow it's gone.

Our FB Page is now gone also. Motorhomecraic is no longer on Facebook at all. it doesnt need to be, I have enough proof to make that decision. :)

Been on quite a few Facebook groups and slowly deleted them as they all went the same way as the Craic group ,(also deleted most of the friends i don't interact with).Must also say that i have been a member of most of the motorhome forums and am now down to 2 (the other a small forum mainly set up for meets). Been there and done it and think it now may be the Grumpy old man era coming on :D :D .

I think a lot of people are going your way, including myself. I binned most, all except one, of the GB pages, and just keep hold of a couple of ones that don't take life too seriously.
I prune my friends list each Dec or January, if people cant even press a like or hate, or any other friggin' button, they're hardly "friends"!
Has anyone else noticed how precious the Scottish ones have gotten?
