Hi all, to fit or not to fit that is the question!! 09 Ford Transit with a Rimor Superbrig 689tc Body. It has quite a large overhang and also quite heavy. Will it make it more stable and comfortable.

I have air suspension fitted to mine and a definite YES. I think this is covered on the Forum elsewhere but it has made such a difference to our van.

Thanks Jack... I have been looking at some kits and will probably fit it myself. I am looking at fitting two gauges as it might come in handy to level it up while parked.

No personal experience on this but over the years I have heard dozens if not a few hundred writing positively about the benefits they experienced after they installed Air Suspension.

I can't recall anyone ever saying they regretted it

So the weight of comment seems to be very much in favour.

Like Jack we also have air suspension on the rear of a Renault Master based Motorhome and find it excellent. It was fitted to the Van by the previous before we bought it so I can't compare it to how it handled before fitting but it handles superior to our previous Fiat Motorhome, It was fitted by a company in Midleton, I came across the receipt lately, it wasn't cheap, I think around €1300, I can look it up if you like.

Just checked the invoice, it is a VB-SEMIAR system fitted by David Byrne Transport in 2012 and cost €1495.07 fitted. You would want to be fitting it to a fairly new van to justify that kind of money.

Hi Pat, There is a company in Fermoy called Fenton Truck & Trailer and they supply or supply and fit. Supply only €425 Plus 3 to 4 Hours Labour in top of that if you want them fitted. Also a second gauge is €25 extra Plus a compressor €50 if you want one look up www.van-bags.com . I know the owner quite well John Fenton.

Our oul wagon has it too, but only on the back axle. Love being able to lift the arse of the camper just by charging the airbags.

Must work on bagging the front axle some time and fitting some clever control system.

I would definitely recommend the one at £380, I fitted one of these myself two years ago and also got the dual gauge, as you say you can raise and lower to suit yourself

This is probably the same company, sounds a more realistic price

When it comes to Air Suspension, one gets what they pay for. The cheapest may not necessarily be the best. I can say AS has been excellent for me and made such a difference to my van.

The AS system has its own motor and one can increase or decrease the night at the push of a button which is very useful.

This has a built in compressor also Jack, Just press a button and you can increase or decrease the bags individually. Quite handy if you were on an uneven site ect.

Hi Elmo, 3 hours and as I told Jack it has a built in compressor and you can raise or lower each bag separately which is quite handy. It had also made the ride more stable and it's much better on roundabouts and speed ramp as sometimes the rear would catch.

Elmo,€480 for the kit including the compressor plus a twin gauge and €200 for fitting so i'm happy enough. you could fit it quite easily yourself but a pit or lift makes it much easier.

Just looking at this myself as my bump stops are in an awful shape (1996 Ducato) and should be replaced. It might make sense to replace with an air suspension kit. In this case I might order the Dunlop kit which is around £360.

The only problem I have is raising the van to fit it. I might have to make some wooden service ramps from scaffolding planks.

Sounds like a good idea, the bump stops are been damaged by the vehicle bottoming out on the springs so the airbags should make a big improvement. We have them on the rear of ours and find them great
