Just thought I would start this thread to see who is planning to travel to France in 2017.

Many motorhomes travel to France from Ireland each year and lots of us could be passing other members without even knowing. I would hate to think I had missed an opportunity to have a chat with another craic member who was in the same area.

We met up with Pat and Maria (chasson) a few years ago in the south of France. We had never met before but had a great few days when our journeys overlapped. We have met in France again and Ireland since then.

You never know, we could have a few passing the same area at the same time.

We don't need to publish exact dates if we don't want to.

We are thinking of August at the moment but no exact dates confirmed.

We are planning to go in August 2017. Last year we went in July. The Previous year it was August. Looking back over the photographs, it is a fabulous holiday - it seems so long ago!

Yes Mark, some lovely Memories there although we got off to a bad start, we met Mark and Johneen in the queue to board the ferry and arranged to meet for a few Drinks later however after half an hour into the sailing I ended up in the cabin sick as a dog and never left it until the morning. I felt so bad meeting Mark and before I could apologise to him, Mark piped out, pat I am very sorry for not meeting you for a drink last night, I was sick as a dog all night :D

All I can say Mark , I know ho you felt and we look forward to meeting ye again

We are not sure if we will make it to France this year either :(

I thinks it's the 10th September, Dublin to Cherbourg booked. Just for 2 weeks. No other plans at this stage but hope to spend a few days at the D day beaches. Managed to stop at Utah on the way home this year, so lots more to see. Of course, Wendy needs the sun so it will probably be back to the La Rochelle area.

We're booked for mid May to July .... but flexi tickets so may alter dates.
Going Rosslare/Cherbourg, down the west coast, and Spain down to near Benidorm, probably Altea area..
Always off season so we use ACSI sites when required but 90% Aires.

We are hoping to go mid June-mid July. It will be our first outing to the continent with our motorhome, hope it's a good one! We spent many summers in France when our family were younger, Talloires on Lake Annecy for maybe 10+ years, then down to Canet Plage for a good few too! We started with a frame tent, then a trailer tent and finally a touring caravan. Thinking of going back to the Med in 2017 and will have to start planning after Christmas.

Hi Heather89. Welcome to the craic.

You will find traveling around France so different in a Motorhome. The Aires system is great and you will find plenty of info on it on this forum.

If you plan to travel direct from Ireland please remember to click on any of the Irish ferries links on this site as they are on of our advertisers who track where the traffic comes from. Motorhomecraic will get credit for sending you. The adverts are what help keep this forum going.
Currently if you click then it green banner at the top and select use discount code you will get 10% off 2017 Sailings.

going to have a rant here, 420 euro odd for fortnight heading out 1st June, 380 euro odd 31st August, or 1100 euro to go during July.

We ended up travelling Dublin/Holyhead and Dover/Dunkirk for this reason last year (July time). Couldn't justify the difference.

July is always the most expensive month for obvious reasons.
I much prefer being in France in July or August as there is so much more going on. Prices are fine for August this year ..

We are usually over in May, June or September doing some gardening for my parents and I cant believe how little is going on.

I know what you mean Jack. I suppose we are lucky in that respect as we can see the village off season if we want.

I still love the activity in summer.
At least in the busy periods there are people in the villages after 8pm. LOL

There's nothing to beat going into a wee restaurant when all the visitors are gone and just local French folk are in. That's when one gets the real good wine and very reasonably priced too not to mention the food. I want to go to the Beaujolais region of France in November for the launch of the new seasons Beaujolais Noveau. Every village has it for free for the whole week. I need to get there very soon.

We've booked two trips- beginning of June and mid September, while the ferry deals were on- we'll probably spend some time in France but travel on elsewhere after, no definite plans yet. I'm attending a conference in Amsterdam in September so taking the van, and taking a couple of weeks touring after.

Will be doing the usual of driving out to Spain in July, we haven't even thought of the dates yet. The summer past was a great trip as we spent more time in the motorhome than we did at the house in Spain!

You certainly are in the right place for advice. I would say just wing it. If you have "All the Aires", you're flying. If not, a simple place to stay is usually easy to find, in every town. You don't need to tag along with someone, that can be fraught with disaster. You will make friends wherever you go. Decide what your interests are and what you'd both like to see, and google.

Hi Jig.
You can buy all the Aires online with this link.
https://www.vicarious-shop.com…ether.html

It is very handy to have and we (like many members on here) use it a lot.
Make sure you read the descriptions as some Aires are more suitable for overnighting than others. The books lists ALL Aires, some of which are simply service points.
Enjoy your trip.

Hi sprinter,

I dare say you are aware of the introduction of badges for compliance with pollution control which takes effect in a few weeks, however the more we can spread the news the better in case anyone falls for a fine. The second link is particularly relevant as it lists 22 other towns and cities likely to introduce these controls.

http://www.aph.com/community/h…7495ae5af6

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/m…icles.html

You can apply from tomorrow (1 st Feb)

Obviously every city will have different sized zones, Paris being bigger than, say Lille. Is there a site that will show the different zones?

Just found this for Antwerp, so there must be other cities doing it. The badges are only required for inner city zones and we seldom drive into the inner sanctum anyway.

For travelling through France it may be better to have it than not as you may find some of the Aires are inside the city/town emission zone.
