I live in sligo and naturally know all the nice peacefull spotsc in the easkey enniscrone area...my fav spot is a little fishing harbour called pullaheaney.it's well lit and very safe. AND FREE. .i stayed there 3 months this year. Its beyond beautiful .you can get fresh fish from the fishermen when they land their half deckers..down the road a ways is EASKEY town..they have a lovely caravan camper park in the center of the town .very clean .safe and reasonable priced.. you can pull along the coast road along the atlantic and stay for free..i did notice some unsavory charachters there this year .and its not lit up like pullaheaney...theres another spot called FINOD its half way between RATHLEE and EASKEY. Just a common area its free and safe..but a little dark..hope this helps someone...marty.

The "lovely caravan park" you speak of is managed by the "Community Council" who were instrumental in having the "No campervans , no camping" signs erected all along the coast road.

Must check those out.
I've been around that area but didn't stay as there was no camping signs everywhere I drove to.
I did go down to the pier/jetty area which was dark and lots of boy racers chasing around so didn't stay and went on to Ballina.
Lovely area, just a damn shame that councils have their heads so far up their backsides that they cannot maximise the beauty by providing only a parking space, one of the reasons we head a few times a year for Roslare and onward to Europe.
But I'll go down again and check it out, be a pity not to see the area.

Thanks for the tips. I like that whole coastline all the way from Ballisodare to Enniscrone. Beautiful part of the world (A small segment of the Wild Atlantic Way :-) )

As I said it's clean .safe and a minutes walk to shopping and pubs..I always felt it was a shame they did not place it down by easkey castle..it would be another doolin..easkey has so much potential and the people are amazing... that's what brings me back each year..take a bow easkey.

Ps. Regarding the no parking signs..my experience has been nobody heeds parking signs. You alienate the very people you are trying to attract...more motorhomes more people more money spent....if u make people unwelcome they will not come back it's that simple..I agree there should be some regulation but make it fair and fun for everyone. Rant ocer.

................................

I never take any notice of 'No Camping' signs because I just park. If I want to go 'camping' I check into a caravaning and camping park

I wouldn't take much notice of the No Camping signs as it may be hard to enforce. What's the difference between parking a car for the night or parking a motorhome. Not much that can be done if your road legal, taxed, insured and tested, as long as you're not dumping or emptying grey water into drains. That's the difference between a motorhome and a caravan. You have the right to use your vehicle in a public place

Well done Sligoman. Great to get some local info. Sligo is a beautiful part of the country.
I think a lot of smaller villages would be very happy to see camper vans staying overnight and adding to their ecconomy.
We were in Rosses Point earlier in the year and loved it and will certaintly try Pullaheaney next year.
Thanks for the info.

Your welcome..it's supposed to be a free country no one should impeade your legal right to stop where you please..it's dad that our rivers are still owned by landlords..that don't stop me from take a big salmon out if I feel like it. And i do .EASKEY is a very rare little hamlet it has not kept up with the BS that is normal in other places..GOD keep it that way...marty.

Sligo is lovely. Regularly travel around the coast from Leitrim border along the coast, Mullaghmore being a regular haunt as we love the walk around the coast road. We have travelled the "back" road from Ballasadare towards Ballina via Easkey and Iniscrone, we stay in Eniscrone at a friends house as little stopping places. We did once stay right down at the beach, past the pier but at about 10:00pm we were approached by a man and we were informed that camping was not permitted although we were, as far as I was concerned well off the road on the grassy part just by the rough cobble shore. We never stop anywhere there since and stay at our friends place if needed but tend not to stop there now at all and go on towards Ballina or Mullaghmore/Donegal. I think Iniscrowen and surrounding areas is probably under pressure by 'commercial' operations to discourage motorhome parking to 'force' us to stop in 'appropriate' places........ NOT. :police:
Will look at your recommendations on our next foray down that way, thanks for all the info.

Hi JJF.....there is always a few camper commandos in every where you go first thing I do is ask the person who wants to recite laws to me..is. what's your name.and what authority do you have...if I don't like the answer there politely told to mind their own business.. it works .and well within my rights..just my two cents.marty

LEAP are doing a great job cleaning up and promoting Easkey, just a pity they can't get the height barriers removed at the castle.

I agree jmac. To be honest they are there because they have a problem with travellers..as like everywhere else may as well be honest.... I was there in July this year.saw a row of travellers with a bunch of coursing hounds along the sea shore..spoke to the farmer adjacent to them .he told me they dedicated inside his wass and left rubbish after them when they finally left..I'm sure there all not like this but it makes it hard for people coming behind them...and yes LEAP is doing a fantastic job.
