Scams

In the last two weeks I have received the following phishing emails.

1. an email telling me my 'what's app' account is due to expire. It will cost 99p to renew if I follow the link and update my details.

I don't use What's app

2. An email (two actually) allegedly from Netflix telling me they were having problems with my account and to contact them and update my details.

I don't use Netflix.

Pass the word to others to watch out for them.

Yeah, I get them all the time and I just delete them.

A piece of advice from someone who works in this area, no financial institution wiIl EVER send u a mail looking for u to confirm personal or bank details.All mails like this should be deleted.This includes mails pertaining to be from revenue or a utility company telling you that you're due a refund and to follow a link even if the link looks genuine, it's so easy to re-direct one to a spurious Web page that looks legit, any mails like that just delete!

This latest purporting to come from Amazon. Given lots of people are buying lots on line in the run up to Christmas, especially from Amazon it is likely to catch some out. Allegedly the email is pretty good.

Buggers getting sophisticated now with scams.
I get them too, delete them...... if I'm in any way doubtful I'll open the site on my browser and log in normally....NEVER FROM THE EMAIL.
Also, if I have no dealings with said company I never even entertain it.

My latest was an email from greater Manchester police stating that I had been caught on a speed camera doing 85 in a 30 limit outside Salford looking for. Fixed penalty payment
I was at work at the time

My Microsft account fixed by someone in Nigeria - they are soooooo helpful

A massive claim for the accident I never had - that fooled them

A brand new Motorhome for £500 - it was on ebay

A new Range Rover - all I had to do was click and share on Facebook

Two new RV's - again a click and share on FB

Finally a holiday in New Zealand - I have to meet a guy in Thailand in a bar, but he sounds very genuine.

In all seriousness, it is so easy to fall for a Scam, especially if you are not on a real computer IE: a PC, or are maybe new to the internet.

Joberg is so right.

Some tips:

No one that is legit will ever ask for your password.

Never click on a link in an email unless you fully trust its source, go the long way around, if it is a paypal email, then open a new browser window and type in https://www.paypal.com (S means secure)

Always go the long way round - go to the site the link is pertaining to be from, do not click links no matter how real they seem.

if you are on a PC, hover your mouse over all links, the intended url will show up in the bottom of your browser. For instance: if a paypal email has a link and you hover over it and it does not say https://www.paypal.com but instead MAY look like: http://www.myscamtoyou.paypal.com delete the email and report to spoof@paypal.com

One for you clever people who understand
on my old computer in my e-mails there was a tab at the top which you could link on which gave you a quick way to put into Junk or Spam and if you put in spam you got a sort of thank you note.
Since getting windows 10 I don't have this so is it me or is this another "improvement" that came with my Windows 10
Sorry for being a luddite but maybe there are others out there as well

Right click second column on the email you are viewing - move to junk

Might be a handier way, I'll look when I get home.

I got the one from Microsoft,so before they start I always tell them that they have rung a premium number and they will be charged £1.50 per min do they wish to continue they soon hang up ,another one to pull on them is lift the phone wait till they talk and than answer with hello Belfast pnsi police service thy soon get of the phone ,the last one I got about my computer he said that I had a prob so I said are you giving me a computer he said no I'm going to fix yours I said I need a computer for him to fix will he give me one ,do you not have a computer,im 89 years old I can't even work the f****n tv what the f**k would I be doing with a computer you daft tw*t and hung up

Just resurrecting an old topic here, Got a scam email this morning from a fake DPD address asking me to update my details or track an item as they were unable to deliver my parcel.Looks like its going around a while,so just be careful whilst checking emails, we don't want anyone getting phished, things are tight enough as it is.
