Was it been used? Is it worth challenging? Maybe they might replace it with another if a bit of pressure is put on.

Definitely being used up to 200 or more vans on it , have friends on there now and as Ally says they all have to be off for Dec 8th. Never stopped there as i usually fly to the Algarve (find it cheaper) but have called a few times over the last 2 years to see friends and had xmas dinner with 20 of them last year . New owners this year and they have made improvements so they will be gutted as will all the regulars. Will be on the Algarve myself for xmas so expecting to see a few vans still looking for a good stopover.

I've serviced there but never stayed. It's a huge site but there are plenty around the area. I'm at alvor just a few miles away but heading to Cadiz soon. Portimao attracts a lot that stay for weeks/months but as one closes another opens.

Called there yesterday,definitely closed.
We stayed up the town, but they are putting in the bases for barriers,so it may be that Portimao does not intend to accommodate motorhomes at present.
If you are going to Alvor after heavy rain it can be interesting!
You may need the water boots!!

Before and after pics and comments from Portugal.
Mrs Dr Isilda, as you can see in the pictures we have a case of blatant tourist descriminaçao in portimao, to the extent that more than a thousand tourists were working the trade and services in our town, and with sadness that I come across several restaurants in the marina and the Praia Da Rocha without any client at this time of winter, knowing that the municipality has a lot of lack of these tourists, TB I realized that there is no alternative to the parking lot of the caravans, because the of alvor, this permanently full of mud in the winter.... We'd like to know what the alternative that we have for this situation in the city of portimao? No other matters I endorse my best balcony. Jose Santos

Isn't that just incredible.
Everyone looses, the motorhomers and the local businesses.
Typical idiotic decisions made by people with little or no business acumen.

Sorry but not quite true,of course the vans made few grand a week for the folk running the site.and the local businesses got a bit more trade ---but when vans are occupying a prime development site ,it's only a matter of time before they get moved.
If by some miracle the the Portuguese councils could be convinced to issue vans with a parking permit, and provided Aires similar to Lagos, then motorhomers would know exactly if they were welcome
In which ever area they parked in.
There is a decent amount of money to be made from van parking, plus the benefits to local business, but
Never on the scale of money that comes from housing/business development.
So,perhaps the motorhome associations should try to sell the idea of permanent Aires to each council area?? If anyone knows how to promote this?
