So is my 2 and half year battle 🇧🇭 finally coming to end? Yes I think it is. Work starts tomorrow to enable grey and black waste to be pumped 320m from the campsite to the Council/Irish Water pumping station. So from the start of next season we should have a toilet cassette emptying point in an addition to a grey drive over and water fill up points.

Watch this space for aire de service charges for 2017 onwards.

Happy days.

Spent too much to develop to second bit of land for a while.
Plus it gives me something to do next year or the year after!

It is soooooooo good to see an Enlightened One

I hope you make buckets ;-) of money from passing motorhomers and also get new overnight business from those who appreciate your forward thinking.

I for one would be happier to use campsites occasionally if I didn't harbour the feeling that their proprietors were trying their utmost to deny me my alternative choice.

"enlightened" errrm, very nice but not strictly true.
I think as with any business you need to understand the market have an interest in what you do and an interest in what your customers want and expect.

Simple principles to follow. I have seen so many things designed in an office by a person at a desk that will not ever use the end product. It struck me once when I was staying in one of the uks largest hotel chains that had showers over the bath and they had but the shower end at the sloppy end, so that when you tried to get under the shower you stood a good chance of slipping.

And I have been on too many campsites where the shower was in a small cubicle, 1 hook, no where to put the shower gel. Or the grey drain was a raised cover, no chance of using the drive over release and even carrying a whale and emptying by hand was not easy. Or finding two taps next to each other, one for drinking water one for the cassette but which one? And the cassette emptying point being very high, or just a small dimension pipe to pour it into, no where to put the cassette cap and a risk of it floating down the emptying point.

All these faults & little details could have been avoided if the designer/installer thought like a user.

I don't get everything right, far from it. But when I get it wrong or someone suggests how I can improve things then if it is feasible and viable I will.

There are more MHs in Ireland now than a few years back, there are loads now coming from mainland Europe and enjoying the wonderful things to see and do in Ireland if I can tap into that complete market great, why limit myself to those who only want to stay on campsites when I can get an income (maybe not bucket loads) from MH users who rarely if ever stay on campsites.

I do not think I am doing anything that special or even difficult just providing a service for a large customer base that many others haven't seen the sense to tap into yet.

My site will definitely not appeal to all. It is small - very circa 20 pitches, the pitches are not the same size, some are bigger than others, some are very open others very sheltered, we don't have swings or a playground, some of the five pubs in the village only open when they want and then don't always close very early.

I hope craicers coming to Clare will pop in see what we have decide to stay or service or decide that next time they are in the area they might avail of what we have.

Regards Jamie.

Honestly getting this sorted has probably been harder than a decathlon, but it'll be worth it, I hope.

It will Jamie, we spent a couple of nights at the Docks in Galway and then went on to Co Clare during the Summer, We would have Camped over night at Strandcamping but we needed a site that we could empty the toilet, so we ended up at O'Connors in Doolin. I am sure many others were in the same position as us.

We are making good progress.
When we opened the campsite it was based on a means to an end, it would give us the ability to make use of our MH so we open every year on 1 March and close on 31 October this gives us 4 months to head to Spain and Portugal. We could open longer but we decided to draw a line in the sand and after 8 months spending pretty much every single day on the campsite you can guess how much we look forward to to the 31 of October.
That said we are looking forward to opening again next March aswell.
Enjoy your week in the MH with your family and hopefully you might be traveling this way next year.
