Totally illegal and I do not condone their usage.

But for research purposes, anyon experience one? they seem to go up in value for the amount of area you need to boost, which of course is small in Motorhome, so the cheaper options should be viable.

They are only illegal if you get caught O-) O-)

I never knew such thing existed,
With the roll out of 4g in most populated areas would a 4g one be better?

Yeah, but upon loads of sarching there doesn't sem to be a 4g 'Three' booster. So depending on what network you are on.

Allegedly.... Three is the best providor to boost as it uses the same frequency for calls and data, and it seems you can boost 4G despite what I read earlier.

Think I have this right........

A repeater may help, but it seems to be more for getting a signal into a building that has a crap signal inside but a good one outside. It may help in boosting a signal, making it stronger, but I think a MiFi shoved up a pole or attached to a good aerial, would have the same affect.

Problem I am having is finding a good enough aerial, or reading reviews on something that is good.

This is interesting: http://www.motorhomewifi.com/p…er-pack-3/

So is: http://www.solwise.co.uk/3g-antenna-outdoor.htm

Ally I borrowed / tried one similar to this http://www.mobileenhancerireland.com/products/4g-lte-mini

But not for 4g
to try and boost my mobil and mifi signals, .. still testing it But to be honest the jury is still out at the min, my signal out side is 3 bars but in is only 1.. with booster it seems to hold 2 bars, but the the whole thing can go from good to very bad.
P.s It came all the way from china but does not say that on the site.

P.P.s But then again I don't seem to have 3g let alone 4g. they might work if you have good 3 or 4g, but, hey if you have that you probably would not need one of these anyway.
my signal seems to be HSUPA nearly all of the time.

Cheers Tom.

It all seems a bit 'too good to be true' some of the claims on articles I have been reading. I have a 4G aerial for my mifi, it makes no difference whatsoever to signal, sometimes making it worse, currently in discussions with MotorhomeWiFi where I bought it, wether it is faulty or another outside factor affecting it.

Oh yes i forgot gets worse when when I turn up the 2 signal boosters to full, have to turn one down and the other up a bit of a pain.

Like you I could not find any info from anyone, I think there not all that good to be honest

from Solwise site...... this is from the most expensive antenna's info..

Quote
Note a directional antenna should ONLY be used where the antenna has direct (uninterrupted) line of site to the mast. If you don't have line of site then an omni antenna is preferred. An RF, antenna cable will also be required to run from the antenna to the radio device.

There are websites that give information on masts, but being in line of site of one could be pretty tricky when out and about in the MH. So Omni directional seems to be the way forward if going for an aerial.

Just for some more confusion, 4g requires two leads going into a MiFi but a Omni Directional one on Solwise site that claims to be 4G only has one lead........... This One

Think I'll email Solwise for some advice.

This is very interesting: 3g 4g wifiHERE

Meant for boats, Sat Wifi it seems:

http://www.glomex.it/webboat/f…4G_ENG.pdf

Satellite WiFi for £199 - that can't be true, hmmm

EDIT: I see it must be some wort of directional WiFi from land.

Intersting I like the way they say 3g 4g
"Insert the SIM Card on the receptacle outside the antenna and get a 4G signal or Wi-Fi connection
( if present)"

leading me to think if you don't have 3/or 4g in the first place. expensive way to find out me thinks.

They all claim that they do the business!!
the Question is are there any boat owners on here that have one or tried one. Has anyone else tried any of these.

OK, I'm started to think about this so I'll share what I know upon my experience.

Those 3G signal boosters are, as Ally said, intended for when you have good signal outside but due to thick walls, you don't get anything inside. So won't do the trick unless the problem is your MH being a bunker, which is most unlikely.

What we all need is an omnidirectional antena capable of extending the reach of our little phone/mifi antennas to reach to that poor signal on the other side. Unfortunately, wireless signals do depend on line of sight, buildings, mountains and even water (specially salty one) will cause interference.

Only antennas I know capables of going over water over great distances are microwaves antennas, which is what big boats (yachts) will have and even then they'll rely on satellite when in deep sea.

So, an omnidirectional antenna attached to a MiFi or booster will only help if you get a week signal, but if you're getting EDGE or no data at all, you'll most likely only get a stronger EDGE, unless you're just out of reach.

In my area I have this problem when I go out to the beach, unless it's very close to a town it's most likely that I'll have poor to no signal, which sucks to spend the night (say what you will analog rebels, I want my Netflix).

I'll start doing some more research about antenna, but very interested on this.

A few years back I would just hooked up an Access Point with a big omnidirectional (Ubiquity, TPLink or similar), but now these days most WiFi are password protected and pretty secured, so it'll only make sense in situations where you're in a camp site and they only have signal on the main building and you actually know the password. But not ideal for wild camping....

Cheers,
Rami

GAIN AVERAGE: 3 dB | 5 dBi

As I said on my post above, this will only boost the signal a little bit if it's low but there....

That would be the equivalent of walking around a few hundred meters looking at your phone and getting better signal. It will help for sure, but it wont get that signal on the other side of the mountain if you know what I mean...

A directional antenna could have an advantage where since it's focus you can point it at something like a building or such to get it to bounce. And yes, they will bounce! But then again, it means that you'll have to point and shoot at every stop, sounds like a lot of work.
