• Category A is for batteries with a higher storage capacity for people who frequently use their touring caravan or motorhome away from an electrical hook-up

• Category B batteries are aimed at those who frequently use sites with hook-up facilities, but require a greater battery capacity to operate devices such as motor movers:

• Category C batteries are for users that require a lower capacity battery to cover basic operation of their habitation equipment for short periods away from an electrical hook-up

It seems all Class A are AGM batteries, and expensive.

Some Motorhomes can only take Gel batteries, some can take both and have a switch to change over. But can the rest take Gel (AGM) ?

Gel are supposed to be the same as flooded except that the electrolyte is jellified to prevent spillage, do you plan to turn your MH upside down :wtf:

If it's in the budget the new generation batteries for stop/start engines are supposed to be best as they are happy to give out high amounts of power if using large invertors and are then happy with aggressive recharging, I have been told that some MH manufacturers are now using them as original equipment.

Check what different battery type setting the MH charger has to avoid buying a battery type which is not catered for.

Check out Alpha Batteries the have a big selection and unusual for leisure batteries a long guarantee, many with 4 years warranty,unsure of the carriage costs as they are in Rochdale.

I never considered a gel as if I'm upside down in the Motorhome the batteries are the last thing I'll be thinking of. But the NCC seem to have done a lot of testing.

Both Varta and Bosch silver line are highly recommended for the requirements of motorhoming although they are not marketed as a leisure battery, their construction is designed for the stop start in vehicles

Not all built in chargers can handle gel or agm batteries, check if yours does in case it ends up wrecking it!

Most of the tosh you here about batterys is just that,bosh or varta wet batts are about the best with the silver frames,if you want real deap cycle then trojan 6v are tops,ask a sales man do gel or agm last 2/3 time longer or charge as fast and hold a charge longer considering there price,you will find he will go as qt as a fish through water.

Basically what we are all saying, NCC verified is a load of the dogs dangly bits?

I have had great success with Platinum batteries, the problem I am experiencing is due to mismatched batteries, one that came with van that they said was new, pffft! And another from our last van.

Well i bought 2 95ah truck wet l/acid batterys from my local iveco agent at £46 each and as there used for lifting tail gates on start stop delivery vans i think im ok with them.

Just realised, those were actually the ones we were looking at before we found the NCC verified thingy. Banner seem to get a good name so we might just go for those, even the video were they are all taken apart and tested, the banner along with another make come out on top.

Now for the next decision, I have room for three of them, so whilst I am buying, and to keep them all matched I might buy three.

The amount of stuff we have on charge at any one time is getting on to ridiculous...

2 x spare e-cig batteries
1 x Mifi
3 x Phones (not all the time of course)
1 x Bluetooth speaker
1 x Jumping Jack - realise this one is a bit daft, but how else to top it up if not driving.

Then all the other stuff we are running from 12 volt, TV - Heating etc

So three 110ah's might be the way to go? anyone think of any downsides others than weight?

Talk to Simon regarding the charging unit in MH charging them up,

Other than that I cannot see any problems, you may even get a better price for 3 together

The engine battery is totally separate so no need to have that in the equation.
My OE Varta's lasted eight years and they did get a fair hammering between running the heating 24/7 when using Aires in winter and getting fast charged by my Stirling B2B unit, I now have a pair of Banner's going well for the past three years

I bought 2 x banner 95901 115ah batteries from Northdown motor factors about a year ago.
They cost £250 for the pair inc delivery. 4 year warranty.
Very happy with them. I keep them topped up with 140 W solar panels.
My last ones were Varta's but I think these are better.

Not got new batteries yet, but... been finding out what happened to my present ones.

I found the culprit that was causing the issues, the battery the dealer had put in when we bought the van is basically shite, it doesn't quote any AH on it, despite them telling me it was 110AH. The situation wasn't ideal with two makes but I thought it would do for now. It didn't.

Why the dealer didn't put in two fresh leisure batteries before we bought it, shows how much of miserables *&^%$££" they are. Thousands and thousands of pounds for a Motorhome and they stick in something which was probably either second hand or pure dung.

Anyhow........ our own battery that we took out of our last van and connected it along side the above, was charged up this week. We are now running of it, blow heating on last night, TV on for a short while, lights on etc and it was still 12.9V this morning, now more as the sun is out.

On a campsite and din't take the EHU to test it.

From advice on MHC I knew it was best to have matching batteries, but thought two the same AH would last a while. I'll not make that mistake again

After all that flaffing about since July, it turns out it wasn't the batteries

Solar Regulator had failed, I did suspect that the batteries were not getting a charge after being away in total sunshine in July but had assumed it was because I was too sore on them using an inverter.

New batteries last weekend and they lost power. I noticed the engine battery sitting at 14.8 volts in the sunshine and the leisure at 12.1, leisures supposed to be getting 90% of the solar charge and the engine battery the rest.

One side of the regulator was not putting a charge in, or only a very slight amount of charge. Today in that wonderful sunshine I now have all batteries fully charged after fitting a new regulator.

It has managed to wreck one leisure battery, although I suspect it was never that good to begin with and a mismatch to the other one.

I have ONE OF THESE they're well recommended and have very good reviews.

I've heard they are good. I got an exchange so didn't have to pay, to be honest never had any problems with the same regulator before and always seemed to get good results. I suppose anything can go faulty.

I use a kemo m174 split charge unit from solar which picks up the lowest battery first,i use between starter and service batterys & it can handle 200w s/panel.
I also use a kemo m102n after numax 5 stage 10ah auto charger to do the same on hook up.
There about between £15 & £25 depending where you buy,i got one of ebay and other of google search cheep,i am now fitting same to customers van this week as old 10ah constant charger boiled batterys dry and alt charging relays 10ah also tits up so fitting a 200ah relay and heavy starter cable linking batterys instead of the very thin wireing on old pug/eldis van which he bought a few weeks back and all was not well.

I have cbe CSB2 unit which enabled the starter battery to be charged off grid without the need for a solar regulator/charge with two outputs.
