Vets in France

I know it's been covered many times but I'll ask again! I will be leaving Ile de Ré on Wednesday next and heading to Roscoff and I'm just wondering if anyone knows a vet here on the island that's familiar with the passport so as I can be sorted before I get to the ferry. I'd like to have if done so I can travel to Roscoff at leisure.

Can anyone advise as to how far in advance one should book a vet before return sailing? We will likely be in the area, I’ll de Ré, ourselves. But we can’t be sure. If I tought it was easy enough to book a vet a day or two in advance of the visit, then there would be no panick. Ideally, we would like to be able to book a vet 3 or 4 days before returning.

Our vet in St.Lo usually a courtesy call the day before, but would see us if we just turned up.... but only fair to give him a bit of notice. Assuming youre sailing from Cherbourg.

I would go with Jon's vet in St Lo or Google vetenaire and town to get a town that suits you, 3 or 4 days in advance is not ideal as if the ferry is delayed your out of the time limits

Good advice.....We got caught out with ferry being delayed in Santander after xmas. Luckily we got on though as it was the ferrys fault.

That is very sound advice guys. I never thought about the ferry being delayed. Incident, is St. lo worth a stopover, or is it more a pass through kind of place?

There’s an aire in St.Lo we’ve stayed at, the town itself isn’t that special. Nice castle grounds for a walk, big shopping complex outside town for wine purchases.
The town was totally destroyed in WW2 and there is an interesting museum there.
We generally visit the vet late morning and head back towards the western side of the peninsula again.
There’s also a very nice aire 15 minutes from St.Lo in the town of Marigny (Campercontact 13837).... full services and overnight for €2, nice quiet stop and nice little town.

So we ended up using a vet on I’le de Re. The campsite reception were kind enough to book if for us. The vets clinic is in St. Martin. We booked it for Tuesday last, prior to departing the island and it was very handy.

The vets in St. Martin, I believe are part of the same clinic located in La Flotte, see link in post 2 above. They are not on that Google map atlas of vets. Hopefully the pet passport is all stamped correctly. We sail this evening.
