Heading South

 ·

We plan to go to the Athlone Craic meet 9th 10th September and then head south, have done a very rough map of where we want to go. Dave (eirebus) is going to help with a few extra points when we see him this weekend at Omagh bluegrass festival. He also pointed out we have missed out the Ring Of Kerry, so the map needs edited, also that Ferry needs avoided.......... but it's a work in progress :)

Work in Progress

Open to suggestions and we hope to blog it here :D

Is the ferry you are avoiding the Clare to Kerry Crossing it takes 20 minutes and it's an estuary so if it's sea sickness you are trying to avoid you should not have to worry.

Stay in the MH and put the kettle on by the time you've drunk it it'll be time to get off. Be careful with your MH. Rear overhang getting on and off, although I've never had an issue.

We did it last year, Well organised, and by the time you all get boarded, and set off you're nearly over. Advice to keep Julie settled is to try to arrive as late as you dare, so that she's not sitting around thinking about it. Cheaper to book online, and the roads either side are usually clear apparently.

Sassum frassum 🇧🇭 🇧🇭 🇧🇭

Just loading the van for our trip and the fridge won't work, error code 14:

"Display Board and Power Board lost communication with each other"

Phoned LTS and it might be one of the two boards or we might need a new fridge.

Feck that!

TheFlans had a spare top PCB, not sure whether that is broke or not but plugged it in and same error. So assuming it is the bottom power board, trying to source someone with one for the morning before we get to Athlone, Downshire Caravans are on the A1 and they look like they might stock it. Ring them in the morning if LTS don't get back to me.

SItting at LTS and waiting on his deliveries until 2pm, SImon has the part I need on back order. If it doesn't come by 2pm then head to Athlone were Paul Chevy is very kindly going to lend me his portable Dometic Fridge.

Anchorpoint also has them on back order and will ring me if it comes in next week. So all is not lost, let the holiday commence :)

Main problem: my beer is going to be warm when I get to Athlone.

We managed, it was a hard drawn out slog but we persevered and had cold beer in the end.

How do you recommend we eat these?

I have a quota of carlsberg for my holiday, nuff said :p

Been at Strand Camping in Doonbeg now since yesterday, I will add more to this post when I am at home, along with photos etc. To be honest I am enjoying (to the best that I can) being offline and thank John (the fat controller) & John (madmax)for looking after MHC.

I absolutely love Strand Camping, I have a story to tell and it would be easy to say, "well he's an advertiser, of course I am going to give a good review" but if you have read my posts, silence speaks louder than words. I will write more when home, but in the meantime if you haven't been here, get here!

Jamie, like myself, enjoys a few pints, we had a great nights craic last night in 3 pubs in Doonbeg, not to mention the meal to die for!! seriously have not had as good a steak dinner in a long time!

Must also say thanks to Simon at LTS, he has posted the part for our fridge to Strand camping and we are waiting on its arrival, hopefully tomorrow then we will head on with the rest of our, superb so far, journey.

Now in Dingle, interesting town, probably go further out the peninsula tomorrow and then Ring of Kerry. What direction again please? Clockwise or anti clockwise?

Weather has been great so far and looks to be good for another few days.

Right pub time!
