Just phoned them, its open, 10 euro per night, no EHU as yet but will have soon. Dogs no problem. Price includes use of marina toilets and showers. According to their website there is a cafe and bar on site. Think I'll head up and stay sunday night to check it out.

This would be very good for us I have been down at this spot a while back to try and get a bite to eat but at that time they weren't doing food good safe spot if they do open it up bit of a walk to the town but better that than hassle, want to hear more if it's true we should support this in a big way it would also be a kick in the teeth for the four seasons hotel

Just back from spending a night there. Two other motorhomes there. No EHU, no water that I could see. Good quiet spot to overnight, Indian restaurant very good. Toilets and showers clean. About a 10 minute walk into town. There is a new coastal walk from the marina right into Omeath (about 6km), nice walk along the shore. The guy in the office told me that they hope to have full Aire facilities ready by early next year. I would visit again.

Spent a night there last week.

The entrance to the marina is controlled by parking barriers with a €2 exit fee. So if you just want a look then either it will cost you €2 or alternately park at the big lay bay on the main road and walk in.

Parking is on a stoned area along the entrance road, the area is relatively level but you will need ramps. The stoned area varies in width so Max van length is about 8m unless you park parallel to the road. There is space for about 20 vans.

Great outlook across the marina and across the estuary to Rostrevor and Cranfield with the mournes behind. Very quiet and peaceful when we stayed after the traffic left from the resturant/bar.

At present there are no directly available services for rubbish, fresh water, grey water or black water however if you speak to Darren who manages the marina he said that he could get access if required.

There is a toilet/shower block for the boats. Very limited privacy for the male showers, just two cubicles with curtains so no changing space. Female shower cubicles are twice the size of male so adequate space behind shower curtain for changing. Showers were busy with people from boats so don't know how practical they are in high season. Toilets/showers are totally adequate, plenty of hot water.

Darren indicated that they had just opened in mid August and that they intend making facilities available over the winter for next year.

There is an Indian resturant and separate bar in the marina building. About 20 people there the night we stayed. There are also about 8 apartments which were all empty when we stayed but they seem to be popular at weekends for hen/stag groups.

Cost is €10 including token to exit through car park barrier.

Would certainly use again. If the services can be provided this has the makings of a good overnight stop.

The marina management are to hold a meeting around the beginning of October to discuss their experience with the motorhome stop to date and to decide its future and possible development.

Great night at Carlingford Marina on Thursday and Sunday. Great conversation with the owner etc, fantastic place that will be very popular.

If you are there, please mention we do not need EHU.

Fresh Water, Grey and Black disposal, that's all we need :)

Why no EHU ? Cost ?
In Winter its the only
thing I really want from a
Stopover and would entice me to
Use IT Carlingford for me is a regular spot
Will be there Saturday Nite hopefully all
Going to plan with 5 mates and
will use Indian Resturant/Marina etc and
would avail of Electric if supplied think its better
To have the Option than not???

Putting in EHU has a load of problems attached.

1. Makes Councils usually demand planning permission for campsite, it's a Motorhome parking area, not a campsite.

2. Caravan owners will also try and use it.

3. Cost of installation, so the cost of the Aire will go up and no-one will use it (lochside a perfect example)

4. Majority of Motorhomers don't require it.

I can't understand why anyone would need electric for a stay of no more than 72 hours, unless it's for health reasons?

Carlingford Marina charges €10 for parking (and will soon add fresh water supply, drive over drain and black waste disposal)
I cannot see anyone complaining about paying that.

If they go to the expense of installing electric points they would need to increase the price to cover costs. As Ally has already mentioned Loughside Marina did this. They are now advertising on caravan websites as motorhomers stopped coming when the price went up to £20 per night.

The layout of Carlingford Marina would not be ideal for caravans so I hope they do not add electric points and waste their time and money. They are suggesting the possibility of a maximum length of 7.5 metres due to the layout.

If I feel we need electric I go to a campsite.

It cost me €8000 to put in 20 number, 16amp hook ups. I'm not saying it could not be done cheaper but that's quite an outlay and assuming they recoup €1 profit for every night someone hooked up it would take some time. And there is on going maintenance and I dare say an increase in public liability insurance as well. As cooking, heating, hot water and most fridges can work with gas there isn't much electric required and most leisure batteries should be good for 2 plus days with only light electric use.

As is already an existing Marina and Bar Resturant and Apartment
Facility to me most of the hard work is done utilities in situ etc
In winter I would Use Broughshane and avail of the Electric without
any medical Requirements for a 24 hour stay over using electric hook
up for Heating etc
I'll try it Saturday hopefully and use Resturant etc
Everybody has different preferences Electric at a price in winter would be a service
I wouldn't mind paying for and the safety of parking etc If going into Carlingford.
I use The Back Harbour now after The BBQ MHOME owner ruined The Four Seasons
For everyone.

I would also use camp sites if they asked for a reasonable price

Carlingford Marina...

Quote
As you may or may not have heard; we are now welcoming Motorhome Parking at Carlingford Marina!

We're really only at the stage now where we're "giving it a go" and seeing what kind of a response we get from the motorhome community, but already the feedback has been very positive! We welcomed 16 Motorhomes this Bank Holiday Weekend!

Over the winter we plan to develop the site further and create a Grey and Black Water disposal area. When fully completed we should have 20 designated Motorhome Parking Bays, each with views out over Carlingford Lough and of the Marina itself.

Parking rate is €10 per night. Tell your friends!

They might be 16 amp blue sockets but I hope you have 6 amp MCB's, a 70 Kw load would some load on your main fuse. We were in The Glen of Aherlow a couple of winters ago and an egg could be fried on the main fuse, after repeated replacement by the local ESB electrician a general pleading had to go out to people to turn off heaters and other high wattage appliances.

On the issue of Carlingford, EHU's should not be required, the parking is for short stay only and batteries/solar should suffice, for longer stays/holidays a campsite is best.

Also AFAIK motorhomes can use GAS for heating, in fact the standard on European models is gas only but for some reason UK spec have gas/electric heating, and cooking :-/

Yep proper 16amp it required 3 phase electric supply( €3000) and it's all done to the correct specifications. Not had a trip switch trip in 3 seasons other than when someone had a dodgy ehu lead.

Campsites serve a purpose, not all need or want them, their choice, others do, and some offer good value for money. It's nice to have options. Good luck to Carlingford for supplying another option at a price that is cheaper than a city multi storey Carpark.
