A nervous night ahead

Took the Motorhome to England for a week and of course she has decided to develop a fuel problem! Turns out the fuel primer has a crack at the top of it and I'm sucking air into the fuel line.

Had the AA out twice and they have done a temporary repair but she's still taking air. Hoping to make it to Holyhead tomorrow for the 830pm sailing but worried I might have another failure on the boat. Have it on a timer at the minute and trying to see if I can get 3 hours without an airlock developing. (Roughly the time of the journey)

Not sure there's any additional advice can be given although wonder if I smear the repair with Vaseline would it help to seal it better?

Anyway keep me in your thoughts for the next 24 or so hours!!! (Finger, toes and anything else you can cross!)

They've use superglue and a sealing tape so I'm not sure I want to remove it. Wonder could I put it over the top. Currently on 2 hours 50 minutes and looks like I'm still ok. Only problem is it looks like the sailing is closure to 4 hours!!! Looks like I have an anxious 1 hour 10!!!!

A liberal dose of silicone sealer if you have it over the whole lot might help provided you clean all over it before applying

Good plan Arthur. I'll pick som up on the way. Looks good so far as I got 4 hours out of the repair and very little air to purge!!!

If there is a rubber pipe, not plastic at the Tank side of the primer, you could squeeze it with a vise grip and that would stop the weight of the diesel returning back to the tank and pulling air into the line while it is turned off on the Journey Home on the Boat. Make sure you take it off before starting.

Sorry guys for the late update! We're home safe and sound and not another AA van in sight (unless you include the one that passed me in Lisburn). Still sucking air but sucking more diesel to get it going! It was a nervous drive over snowdonia especially when it was 30 plus miles on the st nav to a petrol station and I was down to 2 bars. The A5 is stunning but not when you've fuel problems.
One squeeze of the primer and she was ready to roll after the boat journey and uneventful after that!!! Think the best wishes got me through and hopefully it won't take much to get her going in the morning. Then off to the mechanic to get a new fuel line. Pity it's not covered under the AA waranty I got with the van!!!

Thanks everyone. Definitely don't want any more of that! Hopefully that's the end of the teething problems. Thank it's down to the fact I have put 5k on it this year and I bought it with 13k. Not used to all this attention!!!

That shouldn't upset her, I've done over 24k in 23 months!

Remember the base vehicles are commercial vehicles and they will easily do 50K+ miles per year, I know ours do
