Seeing as I've just posted a number of places on the Shannon where I THOUGHT one could park / wild camp /stay over, this article is somewhat disheartening.
All I can say is that I've stayed at most of the places I've mentioned and had no problems. I think I mentioned being able to purchase a card enabling one to use the facilities that the boaters use.....but I'm not a hundred percent sure on this. Will research.

As a boat owner as well as a motor home I can give you some information on the cards. These are available in most towns where thereis a harbour. Usually on sale in a nearby shop. Just all around. Or you can get them from waterways Ireland offices around the country. You can also buy them online at waterwaysireland.org. Anybody can use these cards they are not restricted to boat owners.

I often stop on harbours in my van and have never had any problems unless there is a barrier. I heartily recommend that others do the same even if the are no facilities.

Heard nothing more about them.

All waterways Ireland sites can be used by Motorhomers, it was an agreement made well over a year ago by waterways Ireland and the MA IIRC

We've used quite a lot of the harbours etc. Bought the card at the main office in Enniskillen for around £20. Used it muchly since September, including two excellent showers and still have around £16 on the card. Must have piece of kit, as Jack would say!
