Greetings
I am forced to rely on the wisdom and experience of the more 'seasoned' motorhomers on the forum with my problem. My power steering well was empty this morning. I refilled it but it all leaked out somewhere below that I could not quite pinpoint. Is there a power steering pump somewhere and any ideas how the system is 'configured' from the well downwards.
Thanking you in advance.

Follow the feed pipe from the bottom of the Power Steering Oil reservoir and you will find the pump.
The most likely places to have a leak are hoses or seals on the pump drive shaft. do your van have a steering box or a rack and pinion? What make model is the base vehicle? Don't run the engine if you have no Power Steering oil in the reservoir, you will destroy the pump.

Thank you for your prompt reply. The base vehicle is a 1994 Fiat Ducato 2.5Tdi and I think it has a Rack and Pinion.

Probably better drive one wheel up on a kerb or Jack it up and use axle stands for safety. then get under it with a rag and clean off any oily parts, then put oil in it and see where it is coming out of it. Make sure you use the correct oil, usually Red ATF for automatic Transmissions, I could be wrong in your case though, someone with a similar van might know better.

I will have a look in the morning. Think its at the back of the engine block - maybe the banjo bolt seal has gone.

Most of the banjo bolt seals that I have seen are copper washers,
Usually if they are reddened and then dipped in cold water it usually swells again to form a good seal

Great tip - as getting a replacement for the oil sump etc is a bummer.
The pump in hessy is at the front of the engine on the farside (passenger on my LHD)
Its adjacent to the Oil filter and quite accessible
Hope this helps

Thanks Gents, I have found my leak and it is quite accessible as rightly said. I think it is the 'cooling hose' (part thin metal pipe that widens into about 1/2 inch rubber hose and then narrows back into a metal pipe). My leak is on the metal bit just before it widens to accommodate the rubber hose. I guess that I will have to replace the whole section from the pump to the rack & pinion.

Good luck trying to find one of those! My van failed the DOE test on rusty PS pipes, Eventually took out steering rack to renew all the pipes, I got them done at an Hydraulic place here in Limerick, Where are you? BTW this is the HP pipe from the pump to the rack.
