Interesting story.

I know the very spot, in fact we have mentioned about using it some weekend. Maybe not now.

As the other callers said, safety in numbers works.

All the more reason why we need proper Aires in this lovely Country of ours.

If the Co, Councils. Got their act together would be a right little money earner for them. :(

Such a pity there are people who like to ruin others enjoyment.

More Aires seems to be the answer.

I know Aires work and I have used them in France.

I just wonder how being on an aire would stop the tossers causing annoyance.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see more Aires across the country.

Another way might be If the Hotel's, opened up a small section of their car parks. They don't necessarily have to have faculties, kinda like wild parking. I'm sure most people would have food or some drinks in that hotel. Plus most hotel's have 24 hour Security this would stop these tugs from causing trouble.

I think this would drum up some business for the cash strapped Hotels and a Safe place for us Campers.

Back to the safety in numbers surely, more chance of someone else being around and probably closer to facilites? more chance of someone hearing you yell HELP!

But I have yet to use an Aire so can't really comment.

Personally I was thinking of it but was unsure if it worked.

I think they have put to much information on the public area of their site. I think if you turned up st any of the locations listed and didn't have a sni card they would let you stay. Especially the pubs and hotels if you are spending.

I had a look to, was thinking of applying to include our area, but there was a lot of boxes to tick! and I think..... might be wrong here... that we had to get the insurance of them.

I have checked some of the Gps Coordinates on that site and some are off by quite a bit.
Some of the places are no more than a pub car-park that is wide open to the public. And they charge a €10 for the privilege.

All looks good in theory.

Might be worth joining once to see.
Don't think the insurance thing is any better than the one I get from Dolmen

I agree bob.

I have made a similar suggestion earlier in this thread.

In the present economic climate there can't be many bars etc turning people away.

Yes. We joined SNI a few months ago but haven't used any of the sites yet. We thought aboue staying overnight at a couple of locations but the first one transpired to be a plant hire machinery yard and we gave it a miss. The second time we tried to make contact with a SNI site in a seaside town on the west coast but could get no reply from the phone number provided. An earlier poster mentioned that many of the SNI sites were formerly places which allowed overnight stays free of charge and this is true. I met one man on my travels who stayed at a place in Sligo regularly FoC but the last time he went there he was asked for a tenner for his stay. So far we haven't had any great value out of our membership fee but we'll wait and see whether we stick with it for next season. We are only new to the motorhoming lifestyle having been caravanners for years and the jury is still out as to whether we made a big mistake in getting rid of our caravan and investing in a motorhome. 'Nuff said!

Hi Kilree & welcome to the craic.

Sorry to hear that SNI isn't working out for you. I have looked at it but cannot figure out if it is worthwhile at all. Sounds like it may not be.

We caravaned for many years and only started motorhoming about 5 years ago. It is working well for us and we still treat it a bit like a caravan and have found ourselves leaving the van on site and walking or using public transport.

We have found it much quicker to set up on arrival and much handier for long journeys as a quick stop is much easier.

Give it a bit of time, you might enjoy it.
