Has anyone taken a dog to France on Stenaline Rosslare to Cherbourg?
What was the experience?
We were thinking of leaving ours in the van as she would be more content than in a kennel.
How often can you visit during the crossing.
I know on Irish Ferries it's a better boat, but you must use kennels & they have fixed visiting times.
We're a slave to our mutt!!

I would phone Stena (Rosslare) to check what the arrangements are. I think that there are designated times for exercising. The kennel operates on a keypad pin system and my two kids (both dogs lovers and techies) knew the code but did not access. I seem to recall that there are 10 or so kennels and there always seemed to be one yappy dog upsetting the ambience. If it were me, I would keep them in the MH.

If they are in the kennels you can visit anytime and walk them up and down the walkway outside the cabins all night if you want - ha ha , 2424 is correct , we had the cabin right outside the kennels last year , one yappy little dog set them all off frequently throughout the night.

If you keep the dogs in the MH you get 2 escorted visits supposedly 10 minutes each although we got a little longer you get to walk them on the deck your MH is parked on. My dog did not find it conducive for toileting. Ferry sets the time I think it was 10pm and 9am or similar

We used the kennels for our Lab - she hated it.
BTW, they are 2 tier kennels and first come first served; no way we could have lifted her into the top ones.

Thanks for all your replies.
I think ours would prefer the MH.
I think I read somewhere that you could visit anytime, but their site states clearly that visiting is subject to staff availability.
ours doesn't take kindly to o.O toileting in strange places.
On her first visit to France a few years ago, we went via Scotland & the tunnel, down to our destination the other side of Perpignan. We bombed down, stopping every 2 to 3 hours for toileting. 30 hours total. She never went once, not even a pee. o.O

We did this route with our 2 springers and we were told to come to reception at 2 set times (think it was 10 pm/10am )
There was about 7 people had dogs and we were all escorted to the car deck were we were told you have about 20/30 mins
We took our dogs for a walk round the car decks and both were very toilet shy lol lol
When we landed in france first field on the right and let them out for a run

12 hours is a long time between visits. Maybe need to push them for an earlier one.
First field on the right? Your dog's have a very short constitution :D
