I know it's been talked about before but thought I'd get it spelt out for me. From the picture does this mean the total laden weight is 3.5 tonnes?

Looks like
your maximum laden weight is 3500kg
your gross train weight (with trailer) is 5500kg
your max front axle weigh is 1850kg
your max rear axle weight is 2060kg

Although the two max axle weights combined are more than the max laden weight this is to allow for an uneven load. You cannot exceed the max laden weight (or any of the others).
Max laden weight is everything including gas, fuel, water, occupants and everything else you pack.

Hope this helps..

Mark that is brilliant. I thought it was but doubt is a terrible thing!!!! One final question. Can I drive on to the weigh bridge at Lisburn and use it anytime or does there have to be an attendant?

As far as I know you can drive onto any of them at any time but I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong...

You are correct. I have weighed at Toome and Loughbrickland. Toome is fully automatic but you need to press a button similar to a pedestrian crossing request at Loughbrickland. You should get a green light (although we weighed at Toome about 2 weeks ago and it has no request button.)

Drive very slowly and continuously over the plate and stop. The digital display will show front axle first followed by rear axle. It will then go on to display total weight. The display can be a bit slow to appear and a long gap will be between each figure.

I weighed at Lisburn in May. I think it had a button request, but memory is not always good. I approached from M1 and drove towards Lisburn. It is very close to the M & S roundabout.

Sorry Pat, I don't know. The weighbridges that I mentioned are government operated. I attach a link for any one who wants to use them

https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/ar…ighbridges

I read on some of the U.K. Forums that people there tend to use scrap metal merchants and other sources, sometimes free, but sometimes charged.

Most meal merchants (Dan o Connor & Roaches feeds) and Roadstone quarries will charge you €10,

The weigh bridge in Galway docks is €10 but if you drive down after office hours you used to be able to drive on and look in the little window in the hut for free,
Not sure if that's still possible as the security gates are up but are normally only closed when a ship is getting unloaded,

I know that John, Many co op's and quarry also have weigh bridges but are there any government ones that can be used for free, you need to weigh the front axle , the back axle and the whole van separately. When I tested the last van for the first time Dennehys sent me over to Roches to get it weighed and they charged me €30 for one weighing, they did give me an official print out alright.

€30 is a bit Irish,
€10 is plenty if you ask me.

Any grain merchant, co-op, or other business which weighs in bulk product deliveries will usually do a weight check for a tenner.

Here's how.

1. Weight with both axles on the weighbridge
2. Drive off and get the person at the machine to register that weight as a 'laden vehicle'
3. Drive back on so only the rear wheels are on the weighbridge and get that weight registered as the 'empty vehicle'

4. The operator can then print a docket with three weights

A. Which will represent a laden vehicle and be your total weight
B. Which will represent an empty vehicle and be you rear axle weight
C. Which will represent the 'goods delivered' being the difference between A & B and equal to your front axle.

Simples

Well I took the beast to the weigh bridge tonight and an coming in 250kg below the weight. Still have one more passenger, 6 gallons of fuel and some groceries and clothes to put in. Also didn't have any water on board. Quarter of a tonne should do it do you think? Thoughts on a postcard!!!

Roughly 80 kg for an adult, 6 gallons of diesel fuel approx 20kg, clothes roughly 15kg per head (max), plus the weight of some groceries and you should be fine. Not much room for wine though if going abroad though so dump fuel, eat food and ditch clothes etc for the return journey...
