Extra Power Source for backup

 ·
Posted: 19.07.2016  ·  #1
I've been thinking about upgrading my 12 volt leisure side of things for a while now. My only issue is having to buy to matching batteries to do this when my current leisure battery is less than a year old.

Also, the only thing that seems to give me any issues is my laptop after a few hours use. The inverter I have will charge it okay but often there is a problem with not enough power, this results in a warning sound from the inverter.

All this to show you my solution This YOKE it claims to charge a laptop between 2 and 3 times. The reviews on Amazon and other websites seem to be favourable.

Bit of an issue getting it here, won't deliver to Northern Ireland. So I had it sent to a friend in Scotland who has posted it over to me direct.

Will report back once I've used it a few times.

I just bought one of THESE for the same reasons, it arrived today, seems a great job, but not used it yet. Came from Cyril Johnstons in Carryduff.

Very similar, although I don't think the Maxoak can do the engine starting part.

It's the recharging of the unit itself that will be the challenge.
I read somewhere the initial charging takes 36 hours :(

The jumping Jack took 7 hours for its first charge as recommended, then it is supposed to be 6 hours thereafter. It can be charged via a cigarette charger whilst driving which should be handy.

Big Keith has the jumping jack and thinks it is the dogs b0110cks.
He was able to jump start his tractor.

I plan to get one so I can keep the laptop charged and work away for longer.

I have a similar one to Ally's had it lying around the car and used it a couple of times to start the ducatos in work, it came in a handy case to store all the bits in and it is now residing in the motorhome just in case I need it

Just tried to buy one on Amazon for £80 but they don't deliver to NI. (Mainland UK only). Bummer!! Anyone know where to get it here for similar price.

It's the Jumping Jack Super Max I'm after. Bay price is £99 same as Cyril Johnston. I would also expect the bay suppliers to have are restrictions as Amazon when supplying these. They are deemed prohibited items by Royal Mail and that's why Amazon don't supply outside "mainland uk".

Jumping Jack Supermax

Got the Supermax at Cyril Johnston, Carryduff. It was priced at £100 but they agreed to "price match" Amazon £80 as they make them. I mentioned that I had read about the productt on Craic and that I would be commenting positively on their excellent service. Got it for £75. Result!!

Just wondering if anyone has tried the cheaper alternatives to the Jumping Jack , on E Bay for about 1/3 of the price.

Yeah, I bought one for 50 quid and it's really only useful for charging phones etc. No use to start a car.

Yeah it sure is and in my opinion a waste of money. I wanted it to start the 2CV but no luck.

The Jumping Jack Super Max will start any vehicle up to 3.0 litre and comes with loads of adapters for charging other items. Doesn't do Macbook but does iPhone too.

Any feedback from users of the Jumping Jack? Particularly charging a laptop.

Not had it charging my laptop yet, stupid HP and their insistence in using their own type of plug for charging. Never got around to looking for a convertor yet.

Otherwise, it seems good, I did expect it to last longer than it does when charging phones & bluetooth speaker. Maybe I am being too critical and expecting too much.

Would I buy another one? don't think so, but that reason is also because really I don't need it, I would of beeen better buying a 12volt long lead and running it from inside the van when I needed power outside.

The Super Max doesn't have an adapter for Macbook. But can charge iPhone.

Is there not a standard 3 pin socket on it? i'd one years ago, but it was only for emergencies, wasn't ever in a situation where portable power was needed, other than jump starting.
