If your a tea drinker..... Take tea bags... French ones are an insult to tea !
You'll also see that 99% of French drink UHT milk...... YEUUUUCCCCHHHHHHHHH.
Proper milk obtainable in bigger supermarkets in the refrigerator isles. There will be 4000 different UHT milk but only a couple of fresh milk types.

bacon

white and black pudding

buy ( 2) 2 litre containers of milk.empty out a small bit of the milk and freeze the rest in your home freezer..
put them in your camper fridge and when you get to the ferry, bring one on board with a box of cereal and some bowls, thats your breakfast sorted!
the other is in the fridge to keep the contents cool for the crossing and you will have fresh milk in france in case the shops are closed.

taytos

sliced bread

My UK list

 ·
Posted: 14.07.2016  ·  #8
After a year abroad, this is my UK shopping list. Pretty short, as you can get most things. And half the fun is cooking local recipes using local ingredients.

  • Yorkshire tea bags
    Bovril
Options Hot Chocolate; not seen a low fat version in Euroland at all
Some herbs e.g. Tarragon, corriander and mixed herbs
    Thai green curry paste
    Celery salt (use in soups)
Hermesetas, as his nibbs doesn't like Canderel
    Cuppa soups

It isn't a third world country. You will get everything you need in France but it may not be the same brand. If you forget something like a tin opener etc they have them over there too.

A far as a checklist is concerned you will need
Passports
Tickets
Insurance
Vehicle registration documents
A fire extinguisher
A warning triangle
A hi viz vest for each occupant
First aid kit
2 disposable Breathalysers (probably no longer required)
2 pair of Glasses if required for driving. Not sunglasses

I am sure I have missed something.

If you travel on Irish ferries you will probably get hook up on board so frozen containers may not be required.

Meals on board are great. The better restaurant is better value than the self service but you may need to book a table for evening meal and breakfast soon after boarding.

Tinned beans, you can get them in the 'English' section of some big supermarkets - but you will pay nearly 3 euros per tin. Strange but the only French dressing we like on our salad is Kraft and you can't get that either. Difficult to find good spuds. They do stock a lot of Dinde steaks (Turkey) and we like them, they also do a lot of Cassoulet and we hate that.Fresh French bread is great but should you want your normal sliced bread you will have difficulty finding it. Each to their own I guess.

Thanks Guy's getting very excited about our first trip to France now.
Even started making lists which is always a good sign ...even the other half is making lists (even if they are in his head! LOL)

I ordered a 12 volt cooler box today so I can take some proper bacon! :D

On the foodstuffs front again......
If you like white pepper then take it too..... won't get it in France.... Black pepper everywhere but no white.

Scan/photocopy driving licence, passports and insurance, and email them to myself. Then you always have a copy if needed. If you're a reader, you don't need to be told to bring lots of books.
We usually bring a few jars of favourite curry/Korma etc.
When we arrive, we usually get a copy of the guide book to all the produce/bric a brac/antique flea markets in the region. These are a small yellow book and covers the full year.
