Ceasing brakes

Any member got any advice on how to prevent/reduce occurrence of brakes ceasing during wintering?? I had to sort out this problem after taking our mh out in the spring. Base is a 95 Ducatto, 102,000 km. Had to get new calipers on one front wheel, hoses, pads on back, etc, setting me back up to €650!
Thanks.

I bring my MH for a spin once a week no matter what the weather,
No problems when all is used once a week

Like yourself we housed and didn't use our last van for the first winter and had similar problems, ever since we have taken it out and used it every month of every year since and never had a problem with brakes or Dampness since.

Never park up with the parking brake applied, use chocks if necessary.

After parking up try and stop water from rain or washing getting on to the discs or into the drums.

Take the MH for a short spin on a dry day (at least until the engine reaches normal working temperature) on a regular basis. This not only reduces the build up of corrosion on the braking surfaces but it also reduces the chances of developing oil leaks due to seals drying out and hardening.

Leave the parking brake partially on for the first few hundred meters after driving away, this cleans off any corrosion on the parking brake drum, this only applies to where the DRUM IN HAT parking brake system is used and is found in Ducatos with rear disk brakes.

The last point is particularly useful when going for the MOT / CVT as the build up of dirt/rust on the drum can result in a poor brake performance figure when it is tested as a 'stopping' brake on the rolling road.
Remember that the parking brake is normally only applied after the vehicle is stopped and therefore there is no cleaning effect from the brake shoes.

Make sure that a little copper grease is applied to the rubbing sufaces of the metal parts (never on the pad face) and during the winter move it a little stamping on the brake if you cant take it out on the the road. As baguette says chock the wheels and leave hand brake off

Thanks all for your ideas. I know giving it a regular run in the winter is the cure but I pay for wintering in a guys lock-up shed for about 3 months. Would starting it up a few times & moving it back & forth a bit + using the brakes be of help? I always leave the parking off during wintering. I've had no problems for the two previous winters.
