I am fairly sure this guy Adam is a regular contributer on www.motorhomefacts.com

His name on that site is addie and he tours extensively in europe in a van conversion and his wife is called Sophie.

He is a mine of information and has allways been very helpfull to all who post on that site, I have been pondering a booster ariel for some months now and am likely to buy from him as I reckon his advice and after sales service could be second to none.

I have tested three different aerials, directional and two omni directional, one omni being the high powered.

The difference between the high powered and the cheaper omni directional worked out about 8% better, so I always recommend the cheaper one that we have in the Motorhome Craic shop @ £25 (cheaper than the main supplier inc postage)

The directional aerial came out around the same as the high powered, about an 8% benefit.

I have used the cheaper aerial for well over a year now with no problems.

In saying all that, I have three systems being tested in France at the moment by Mark and will have even better results once he returns in a week or so.

Yes, this happens to be the one I have. It seems to do a good job though I haven't compared it to anything else. I've also ordered the hot spot repeater from Ally to go with it and should hopefully have it all working together shortly.

It's a solid tube with 4 sucker mounts so you need a flat surface for mounting. Ally's bracket seems easier to mount on a contoured van side.

High Gain (powered) aerial works differently, it is a smaller range to pick up WiFi but if you know where exactly the router is it will be better.

High Gain will have a narrower band - meaning that if you move it up and down it will have a different affect, whereas the cheaper aerial spreads the band over a further area but will not be just as good a signal.

It all depends on how far you expect to be away from the source, if it is usually caravan sites then the cheaper aerial will suffice, if you plan to try and get WiFi over a greater distance then the Higher gain aerial will work better but will require trial and error positioning.

Just back from France last night.

I tried the high gain and directional ariels with and without the wifi repeater.

I suggest the high gain ariel if you carry a laptop and the same item with the repeater if you are using without USB sockets.
I found it much easier to use and find the signal.

Ariel range was well over 300 meters with a line of site.
It improved networks by about 30 - 40%

The repeater worked well and even gave a signal two floors down and outside the house which has walls which are 450 mm thick and solid stone.

All the equipment is from Motorhomecraic shop or through Ally on this site.
I have left one ariel in France to use in the house and will be buying another plus repeater for the motorhome from Ally next week.

I must agree with Mark, We are using Ally's Rocket antenna for the first time this weekend in Killarney and it is the difference of having free internet or no internet. We have two free internet networks to choose from which were not avalable with out the antenna and the strength of all avalable networks have multiplied. So far we are very impressed.

I have the Motorhome WiFi High Gain Omni Antenna as I mentioned. It works well with the laptop, ( http://www.motorhomewifi.com/p…-antenna/# ). However it is incompatible with the Solwise Repeater which I bought from Ally, (rang the manufacturer and it uses a different chipset).

So I'm buying a Rocket from Ally to use with the repeater which gives me the best of both scenarios and the ability to pick up a wi-fi signal from extreme range if needed.

I thought I'd include that here for anyone thinking of buying the Motorhome Wifi High Gain Omni Antenna.

We've been trying to follow the technical terms of the messages above regarding wifi booster for our motorhome.

We wsh to purchase equipment which is: simple to use; not too expensive; not needing additional software; not permanently fixed to the body of the van but effective in providing improved signal, mostly on camp sites at home and abroad.

If possible please explain the jargon words like "repeater, rocket, etc".

Recommendations would be appreciated on the following: what to purchase, where to purchase and cost. Would like purchase it in time for us to use it on local weekends away before we go to Spain at end of April.

Ok then you will need a repeater. The aerial itself only has a USB connection which you can plug into a laptop but not an iPad.

You plug the aerial into the repeater and the repeater repeats the signal throughout the van allowing you to connect other devices to it such as an iPad.

- If you have no knowledge of IP address etc it would be best if you came for a FREE demonstration before you started using the repeater, it is not that difficult, once you use it once or twice you realise how straight forward it is.

have seen marks wi fi set up from ally, looks impressive and certainly increases your options for web access when in the van.

Difficulty getting signal at Donaghey's but thanks to Ally....again!! ... Got sorted...minor hitch just unplug and start again. So that's us "wified" and ready for France and Spain next Sunday. Can def recommend Ally's extension and repeater (small Reuter)!!! Thanks again Ally!

Got the Rocket wifi ariel on Thursday, the drivers were already on my netbook from the demo you gave me, made a back-up copy of disc on a USB stick as I have no drive on the netbook.

Sitting in Portrush (everycraicers fav town) with C&CC and getting 11 signals with 3 available with openzone.

Very happy, good £25 value.

Was the ariel falling off the moter home while using the suction pads , but fortunately I always carry
A piece of industrial Velcro which worked a wonder holding the ariel in place , and before any one replies I wasn't driving with the ariel on.regards cmd

Hi, glad it's working for you! I agree the suckers are not the best, hopefully the suppliers change them to better ones, I done exactly what you did and used strong velcro.
