Anyone any similar experience has below.
The engine management came on and remained on, when to local Fiat dealer and diagnosed as
DPF blocking sensor faulty and needs replaced. This didn't sound to bad then explained the sensor and
pipe work etc. Total estimate for parts & labour + vat just over £500.

Just realised this should be in the Mechanical and Technical section if anyone can move it please
do so.

Was there no mention of driving it at high revs at a set speed for a certain distance Robert?

I.e. 50mph at over 2000rpm for 5-7 miles.

I have been told this should be done with certain diesel cars to clear to filter but it am unsure if there is a point when it is too late.

Sorry to hear you are in bother Robert,

Hope you get it sorted a heck of a lot cheaper than you were quoted,

What year is your MH?
Could you get it done elsewhere (Non main dealer) as some of the main dealers are crazy money

Yes Mark I drove to Howth and back with cruise control set @ 60 mph light still on. The report they gave states its the sensor that's faulty not the DPF filter. I think they must do an upgrade because the estimate included a list of parts ie bracket, pipe, flex. hose x2, connection kit.
I think i'll just have to pay up and try and smile.

Swift Bolero 2012 with 25000 miles, I think it needs the Fiat software to regenerate the DPF filter
after the sensor is replaced. It looks like they have me by the short & curleys.

If they have to do an upgrade would they not be liable for the cost,or at least some of it. Check out some of the fiat forums.

Robert, I use a guy in Killinchy to do a regen on my x-trail. He has one of those computers that links to most vehicles. £30 every 6 months versus £1000+ for a new DPF. I think he trades under RDO auto electrics but I will check. He also has a mechanic in the same complex and they seem to work together. He may be worth a second opinion if warranty is not an issue. If its not too late give it a 20mile blast on the motorway at 70 , I run mine on cruise control at 60mph and had same problem, Blast cured it :D :D also had same problem a few times with my works vehicle and again got driver to blast it and that also cured it.

In my case its the sensor that's faulty hence its instructing the DPF to regenerate and clean itself so the
sensor replaced before any regenerating can take place,

Those effing sensors.
My Volvo S40 1.9D had a problem of cutting out during tick-over. Main stealer diagnosed the fix as a new fuel pump and injectors, a €1500+ job.
Local mechanic diagnosed a faulty fuel pressure sensor, replaced for less than €200. That was over two years and 25k miles ago, car running perfectly since.
BTW, at the time there were error codes showing up for everything from a faulty throttle position sensor to bird sh1t on the windscreen.

Give me good old plugs, points, tappet clearances, distributors, carburetors and Duckhams Q 20-50 anytime. Stick ECU's, sensors and OBC's where the sun don't shine.

I do think a good 'Italian Tune-up' on a regular basis is a good idea to clear all the crap from EGR's DPF's and Cats. Driving around gently does seem to cause a lot of the new low emissions technology to screw itself up.
I occasionally give my MH a blast along the motorway at 120km/h for about 15km, after the engine has reached normal working temperature.

Its still with Rodney he thinks he can sort it out awaiting on a new sensor but he says the DPF is now blocked up thinks he can clear it but not 100% sure.
If not it will be very costly to replace.

Fingers crossed. You definitely don't want to be paying for a new DPF after only 25k miles. Let us know how you get on.

A guy in Ballymena will remove the dpf, & remap. Not very environment friendly, but a cheap cure & as they don't do an emissions test on mot any more? Hey Ho!

Try asking You tube for an answer, my Mazda had the same problem and they provided a solution using nothing more than a length of wire - free and easy, takes only a minute!

Yes, best job.
We remove and map them out on a weekly basis.
Some DPF's a real pain in the arse, especially fords.
They are a nightmare of a thing, coupled by useless EGR valves.

Hi Mark,
Back on the road again Rodney got it sorted without replacing the DPF, it was touch and go for a
while he had to put the chemical through the filter twice before it worked.
Thanks for your help
Robert

Great job, think I might need to take the x-rail in again soon. Just a feeling. Hope he saved you some money towards the next trip. See you about.
