What's the latest on Greystones?

Hi, does anyone know what the current situation is at the harbour in Greystones? Everything online seems to be fairly old, and on StreetView the harbour carpark seems to be a building site!

We're looking for an overnight stop somewhere between Dublin and Wexford with pubs and restaurants nearby, and Greystones looks promising.

Thanks in advance for any info.

The man works are finished but the car park is now mainly a pedestrian area so very reduced in space as it always got busy with cars it is now near impossible to park, better off parking up at the train station.

Thanks, Fat Controller.

Do you mean parking in the station car park? Is it possible to park there overnight?

There's a post from Rebbyvid about parking in the carpark behind the station (off Marine Road/Latouch Road) here: forum/topic.php?p=77601#real77…#real77601

I'm not sure when the photos in that thread are from, but on StreetView that carpark has height barriers that we wouldn't get past. I guess those barriers are still there? :(

Sorry if these seem like dumb questions, but I'm fairly new to this and have never been to Greystones. Maybe we'll just try to arrive there early in the day, and have a backup plan for somewhere else if we can't find anywhere in the town to park.

Thanks, again!

There is a small one on the Main Street which isn't suitable, the one just up from the beach with a public loo in it is the one I am referring to, follow the road round from the harbour.

Yes, I think that's the same one the Rebbyvid stayed in. But it seems to have barriers now:

Not to worry, I'll head for Greystones and check it out - if the barrier is down I'll look elsewhere.

Thanks again, Fat Controller! If you see an old Hymer wandering around Greystones later today, give us a wave! :)

Just in case anyone else is looking at this thread for information, I'm afraid I can't say what the story is with Greystones at the moment. Our trip last weekend was cancelled due to mechanical problems with the van. :( Thankfully they were simple and are now fixed; I might get to Greystones soon, and will post an update here if I do.

An update, just for anyone who finds this thread in the future when looking for information about Greystones.

We eventually got to spend a night there, on Friday June 4th 2015 (the Friday of the June Bank Holiday weekend). The carpark at the junction of Marine Road and La Touche Road was open. There is a height barrier at the entrance, but it was wide open - so I don't know when (if ever) the barrier is closed over. There is a coin-operated "Superloo" in the carpark (50c charge) which was working and clean, and there is a tap outside it for water. (The tap doesn't have a thread for attaching a hose, it's fine for filling bottles though.)

In the event, we decided not to park in the carpark, but on Marine Road itself. It's really quiet there at night - just the sound of the waves - and we slept well. Just one other motorhome - Dutch, I think - and us.
