Just keeping an eye on the fuel situation in France as we are due to head over mid June. Looks fairly bad in places with the strikes at the refineries..Hope anyone there is managing to get fuel at the moment

Lack of fuel France

We were due to sail out to France tomorrow - camper packed etc but when we seen the Monday news on the fuel shortage we decided to cancel. The thought of constantly looking out for fuel or worse still not having any and having to remain in France did not appeal. This will not be a quick fix , euro`s or not and 1 in 5 stations closed already -- not good. Oddly I agree with the workers actions but their timing is poor.
We hope that it will be sorted by end of Aug early Sept and we will try again.
Have a great time if you go. Cheers

Hi Brian, by cancelling like that did you manage to reschedule your ferry or are you able to get any money back on the ferry?

I just rang Brittany Ferries this morning, we are due to travel June 18th to Roscoff.
if we cancel we get the ticket price less the 25% deposit back in the form of a voucher, if we postpone we can do so up until a week before departure but must reschedule for travel before October this year.

all that said the lady also said they are being told the strike action will be resolved in the coming day or so.

Two families from England here on campsite on Ile de Re, theywere due to sail from England to Santander, I presume Brittany Ferries as they said Pont Aven and doesn't it sail from Cork once a week?. They were to go to Santander but Port Aven Had a mechanical problem, so they ended up driving down through France and will then be sailing home from Santander, so if same ferry should be OK by that time.
They filled their tank before leaving England, but normally they would have waited as cheaper in France. Over here they seem to be allowing €20 at the stations but I don't know how long a queue. We have full tank since last week and not moved as reluctant to move on further away if it got worse, as we should have enough to get us back to Roscoff, (Irish Ferries) if we didn't get any more fuel.

I think the weather next week is better in Ireland.

Fill up in Ireland and stay in Bayeux / Mt St Michel /Carnac you will easily have enough fuel to return home , the beauty of a motorhome you dont HAVE to go anywhere if you like

for those out there, there's now a website stating what filling stations are open/closed/etc. run by the French government.

Just back from France today...very lucky to have got €48 of diesel near Leval. Intended to fill up but pump cut out at €48.

I got the impression that the strikers were going to take to the streets. Not a nice situation as we got lots of grief during the farmers actions last year and were lucky to reach the port in time to catch the ferry.

According to the English language online paper, the situation is beginning to ease.

http://www.thelocal.fr

I don't think this paper is influenced by government, still take it with a pinch of salt and go with a full tank.

Arrived today Sunday 5th June.
No queue 's everything is back to normal.
Only thing I noticed around Cherburg price of diesel €1.34 on average the further you get from port area the cheaper it gets. Best price today was €1.14 per litre.

Oh that's good news. Just heading from Spain to Paris for the match on Monday but booked on return ferry on Tuesday from Cherbourg. We were a bit worried we would spend next five days in search of fuel. Hope you have a great trip. 8-)

Fuel problem fine now, always cheaper at supermarkets, they can be open 24 hrs, even Sunday when main supermarket closed.
Best price we saw was on Ile de Re at 1.04 per litre, end of May, but I think we paid 1.17 up near Roscoff yesterday but you have probably noticed it has been rising steadily in Ireland these last few weeks, so probably in France too.
