Easter in UK

Following an uneventful sailing Dublin - Holyhead on 17th March we drove to The Harp Inn in Little Neston on the Wirral. This pub is very welcoming of motorhomes and all our stops had to be dog friendly. I'm naming it as its not in Brit Stops book! There are lovely cycle tracks around, only negative is that there is no food served in the evenings and no facilities, still a great place for a stopover from Holyhead.

We continued to Hinckley, typical industrial town, where our daughter is temporarily based. Parking was easy - used her parking spot! Following recommendations we then spent 2 nights in Bourton-on-the-Water. Known as Little Venice. What a beautiful spot. The local Bourton Rovers Football & Social Club offer Motorhome parking for £10 per night with chemical and grey waste disposal and free water. It's only a few minutes walk from the village and such a brilliant idea for fundraising for the club as there are no other facilities close by to park

Entrance is via sign for tennis club, lane isn't as narrow as it looks. Advise anyone interested to phone ahead.

When we left Bourton we decided it was time to use our Brit Stops book. Having used France Passion, we found the places too isolated for us, our criteria was dog friendly, close to village/town and preferably serve food - I don't cook on holidays!

Having been interested in visiting Stonehenge, disappointing as can really only be viewed from a distance, out came the book and we found ourselves at a fab pub in Great Durnford. Brit Stops P121, 037. This wasn't too far from Salisbury so off on our bikes to visit the city and cathedral then continued to Stonehenge. Lovely area for walking. Stayed for 2 nights

Following a discussion about Stonehenge locals advised us to visit the village of Amesbury where you can walk around the prehistoric monuments. The village is surrounded by 100+ of them. Fascinating.

Our plan was to continue to Bath, a place we've visited many years ago. Driving through Bath certainly put the blood pressure up and we were disappointed when we arrived at the campsite, not great on first impression but good location, that is was booked out. We decided to continue to another Brit Stop, P312, 301, Beachley, certainly unique with amazing views of the Severn. Lovely pub, great food and hospitable owners but sadly they informed us that many turn up, park for the night, and never even buy a soft drink much less introduce themselves.

It was time to start thinking of the journey home so yet another Brit Stop, told you they were great, in a place called Pumsaint, P338, 327. What a beautiful pub, great cider and food and so welcoming.

The following morning we continued this time to Borth and stayed on an aire with no facilities but very spectacular. Right on a beach. Accessed through a golf course! Charge £5 per night and was very popular. Unfortunately Storm Katie had now arrived and was wild, wet and windy.

Easter Sunday was our final night of our trip and being so happy with all the Brit Stops we had experienced so far we were now planning our route according to the book. Yet again it didn't let us down and we found ourselves in Conwy parked at a fabulous hotel/pub that served delighted food and were so dog friendly, bedding and dog beer, two flavours, were available. Rupert was delighted with himself. This is a lovely area for walking and was a lovely place to spend our last night.

So there you have it. In our opinion Brit Stops was worth every cent, we were never let down or had any problems. Where facilities are available they were free, one place had EHU, mind you we'd to find it, there was nothing too much trouble for the owners.

A great 10 days away

Wonder where we'll end up next!
