It came to me one day years ago, but since realised that robbers and hoods may not be called that for the reason I thought. So who can answer this question.....

Are robbing hoods called robbing hoods because of Robin Hood, or is Robin Hood called Robin Hood because there were robbing hoods?

Google doesn't even know! :D

Hoods has the following meaning.
A ganster slang word derrived from neighborhood, usually talking about the ghetto or where all the gangsters and thugs live

Robin Hood dates back as far as the 1300's and according to the net could of originated in France. So the "Hood" is just a coincidence according to the meaning of it. Or was it changed to suit the meaning of Hood...............................? :)
