May Bank Holiday

Anyone going to be in Castlewellan May bank holiday weekend?
I booked a few weeks ago but could only get a non EHU pitch.
At least find out how well our latest MH will work on Aires.

Going to France mid May to Mid June.
We have been in a MH four previous years, but this year we have an A-class, right hand drive.
My husband would have preferred left hand like last time, but it has the various features we wanted in a newer MH, though I am not too happy about only one entry door and no cab doors.

Starting to look at ACSI book and read where others are visiting.

Thinking Ile de Re direction as a few friends have mentioned that area, but want to spend end of holiday in Brittany., particularly Carnac area.

Like yourself we changed from LHD to Rhd last year and had the same concern, but driving in France was no problem at all. Enjoy your Holiday

If you are staying in that area check out the Aire at Arzon. Great spot with wifi included in price. Village/ port only a few minutes walk away. Service point is on the road outside but if you walk to the barrier and use the credit card machine you will get a pin for the Bourne. You can then do all your services before entering the Aire.

Also Damgan is nice if you want a beach and little else. Take all your food before you go to this one.

Having only one entry door has its ups and down, as we have found out.
In its favour you only have one door to maintain, and its safer than having two other doors that could possibly be broken into.

However as we found out last year in Spain whilst parking up in a public carpark in a busy area ... our only entry door was tampered with, when someone tried to prise open the Fiamma lock and was unsuccessful thankfully! However they damaged it so badly that we couldn't get in either!!. Luckily we had taken our dog with us for the short time we were away. fours hours later we managed to get back in without breaking any windows or skylights, with the help of a skinny worker from a local caravan company, who managed to slide into a side locker and undo the fiamma lock from inside.
And another occasion when a loader on a ferry pulled us to close to the side of the bulkhead on the ship, not realising the only entry door is eight foot off the floor and unless its able to swing open freely then you cannot get out.

And also its happened that some idiot has parked too close when we are shopping and we can't open the door to get in and put our shopping away.

I mentioned these things not too upset you ... mainly to warn you about what could happen, I hope it doesn't happen ... but nowadays ... who knows.

Moral of this story is ... I am currently trying to lose 4 stone so I can slide inside my side locker. :D

Very true Patrick, since our last van was broken into in France we have deadlocks on the cab doors of the current one that can only be opened from the inside and like yourself we have been caught out by vehicles parking too near us and blocking our habitation Door.

This is the first A class van I've had that has 3 doors, the driver's door is God send.As having only 1 door (I presume it's the habitation door) I would think twice about
Sorry this seems to gone off topic.

Thank you fo our comments about single door.
I must remember that for the ferry, so they direct us to the lane that opens along pedestrian path.
We had a Fiamma fitted but found difficult to open, they replaced it for us, still I hadn't got the knack of opening it, pulling lever down, twisting handle and then locking in open position incase someone locked us in.
We did think about the "what ifs" when buying it. Hoping someone doesn't deliberately park too close, or if we have to step into traffic.
Or what would what if we ended up in a ditch on the door side, we climb out the skylight. We must invest in a hammer to smash glass.
