France 2016 Campsite Advice

Hi all,

My first topic and hoping you can provide me with advice. We (wife and 2 kids, 11 and 8) are looking at going from Cherbourg to Camping La Pinede in La Palmyre in mid-July, and then onto Jean De Monts - Camping Zagarella, via Futuroscope. Can anyone provide information about these two camping sites, specifically if I can leave my camper onsite and we can walk or cycle into the nearby towns? Also any information on Futuroscope would be welcome. Thanks - Dan

There was info posted recently about Futuroscope if you use the search function at the top of the page it will help you find it, that may answer your questions on that bit of your trip

As above for Futurescope , there is no real town of la Palmayre just campsites some shops and restraunts , houses and a good Zoo the nearest town is Royan about 6km away and in july it will be quite hot , St Jean de Monts is a town with supermarkets ,shops bars etc and it is an excellent spot for cycling ,Bon Voyage

can't really help only to say we are going mid June, plan on staying in Nantes for 2 night's , then on to Il De Re for a week, then Futurescope , Future scope will send you out a brochure if you request it on the website, we had thought of doing eurodisney too but decided kids are too young and the distance too far , after all we want to relax out there. we might come home via Le Mans, seems to be some nice sites around there for a night or two. enjoy.

Thanks all, appreciate your help. If anyone can provide information on the actual campsites - Camping La Pinede in La Palmyre, and Jean De Monts - Camping Zagarella, would be really grateful. Just to also say what a fantastic resource this site is to tap into your experiences and resources and all your collective goodwill, thanks for all.

I havent been to Camping Zagarella but stayed in one of their other sites, Sol a Gogo and we absolutely loved it. If Sol a Gogo is anything to go by then you will have a great time, the staff are very friendly and it is well run.

I dont think you would walk to Jean de Mont but you should be able to cycle there. Sorry I cant be of more help.

Hi :) We've used Zagarella a few years back, it's a nice site but, La Yole is way better, closer to beaches and more going on. Whereas, Zagarella is very, very French (I'm fluent so, no prob. but the wife struggled a bit) and is on the main road whereas La Yole on the quieter part of St Jean. The town is quite big, good, long sandy beaches, lots of cycle tracks and some nice restaurants, a little bit 'Portrush' in parts, but, hey, your on holiday !
La Palmyre is our favourite camping holiday destination (3 times) more a holiday village than a town, loads of cycling, good beaches, shops bars etc. A nice evening market and a more interesting day market, can't remember the days. We've stayed at Atlantic park and find the whole area beautiful. Try the lighthouse, you can walk right to the top and the views are spectacular or a boat trip to Fort Boyard. Royan is about 40 mins drive awaya a big town with plenty to see and good shopping.

You should also look into going to" Puy De Fou " yourself and the kids will love it

We had a look around zagarella a few years ago ,it was ok but a bit far out of Jean de monts so we opted to stay at Le bois joly which is more or less in the town on the rue de notre dame.

thanks all, really good info. May go with La Yole in Palmyre if there is more going on. We want to be within walking distance or at worst, cycling distance of supermarkets or restaurants. Re Jean De Mont, thats good advice regarding the distance of Zagarella from the town, so we may just opt for Le Bois Joly - had a look there and it looks pretty good. Thanks for all your help on this.
