Hi

Heading to Il De Re in mid June so looking for recommendations for a good family site, 3 kids under 7 with 1 being special needs in a wheelchair, so good paths, pool and entertainment please.

I'm blue in the face looking at sites on line so would appreciate feedback

Thanks

Padraig

All the sites over there are very child friendly. We wild camped on the island so can't give a definitive account. You could contact them on tourism@iledere.com if you haven't already. They'll guide you.

The only site we used on il de Re was camping Le Verennes which is about half way up the island near La Bois plage en Re. It was about three years back and we were two oldies so can only comment from that point of view.

It is an ACSI site so discounted, which was one of the main reasons for our choice. Weekly laundry and proper showers before another week on Aires. It had a pool although I cannot recall if it was a raised pool or sunken. It had a small cafe/restaurant which we did not use, I do not recall any organised entertainment, or saw many kids because it was still school term time.

Not very close to the beach, and a soft sand path through pine forest to get to the sea. On the up side it was quite a flat area, indeed the whole island is, so easy to get to the village, and great cycle/walking paths.

Sorry, not a particularly positive report, but I think it is maybe typical of many sites on the island, although doubtless there will be some that meet your needs. Best of luck with your search.

Davy

Thanks for the replies so far,

I will drop an e-mail to the tourist office tomorrow, thanks

yes I was trying to stay close enough to cycle to st Martin, it looks like a lovely town

Le Verennes look more peaceful then the site I had in mind, ( La Grainetiere )

I have a large 3 wheel buggy / bike trailer for my son that is ideal for sandy beaches , so the sandy paths should be fine

Padraig we have stayed at le cormoran airotel each time we go to il de re, great little site with restaurant, pool etc

The beach nearby is stoney and can get rough depending on wind but we always enjoyed the short walk from campsite down to the beach with kids to watch the sun set

It's a family run campsite ,and we have returned 3 or 4 times, supermarket nearby and you can walk into the small town

Interlude, near le Bois Plage en Re

Beside the beach (Gros Jonc). 10 min cycle from Le Bois, 20 min cycle from St Martin.
Good restaurant, well stocked shop, excellent showers, laundrette etc

Pitches are very varied, mostly with hard core stand on a sandy pitch. Good choice of shade or sun. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Clientele is mixture of families and couples, with space and facilities for both

Davy, Les Varennes, I think the pool area may have changed, even different to ACSI 2016 (o 1572 photo ). Indoor heated pool which may have been outdoor originally and an outdoor shaped pool, not heated but all very new looking. Spotless site. Forgot to ask for the free wifi username and password, I had to wait till reception opened. Works well from MH.

Gosh pressout,

You must have a persecution complex !!  I thought I described my wife and I as oldies, but you are welcome to join the gang. By coincidence I am 38 as well.
