Fridge

Hi everybody , got home Sunday evening after a lovely day out at Banna strand, Plugged into the mains in my garage as usual . and noticed the lights go out in the garage strait away. After a bit of head scratching and a process of elimination I figured it was the fridge was the culprit, Its working fine on gas ,and also on alternator with engine running, but switch over to 220v and the power is tripped out in the garage , and strangely not the circut breaker in the van itself . Any Ideas guys ?? Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated. Simon
PS, It's one of those automatic change-over fridge/freezer.

Sounds like the 240V Compressor in your fridge is goosed. Sometimes the power will trip at the circuit breaker closer to the source of supply i.e the garage breaker rather than the one in the M.H. if both are the same rating. You can get the compressor replaced but the fridge would have to be re-gassed and it is expensive. Any Air Conditioning Engineer should be able to do it for you. The reason its running o.k. on gas and 12v is they use different means for the cooling process as far as I know.

Thanks for that Tytus. I am hoping that it's just the 220v heating element, but I belive to work on the back the fridge may have to be moved forward. Any I'm going to drop into Anchorpoint next week to let them have a look at it. Oh the joys of Motorhomeing !! :D

Check for a faulty switch over relay

Heating element gives that effect and is the most likely source. Been there, done that Simon. Unless you are a whizz, let someone else do it. Lot of sweat and tears to get the bl+++y thing out without damage to the trim. And the wife shouts a lot

Thanks alot guys for all your replys, For some strange reason it seems to have sorted it's self, I ran it on Gas for 24 hours and then I tried it on electric, and Bingo ,it's perfect again. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Cheers.
