Fiat 2.3 whirring after engine stops

My van makes a noise after you turn the engine off, it stays on for a minute or so, it's not the fan. Anyone else's do this? sounds like something still running/whirring, I have asked a few people and no one else seems to experience it.

Would it be the Turbo still revolving for a little while? It should not run for a minute do.
Having said that our Renalult also makes a buzzing noise when I turn it off but if I turn on the ignition again and off it stopp's.

One of my cars did that, cant remember which one and I was told it was the turbo continuing to spin to dissipate heat as the fins on the turbo would crack and break off otherwise.

It's bad for the turbo if it runs too long as no oil is been pumped to the bearings when the engine is stopped running. It is recommended to let an engine with a turbo idle for a short time to slow down the turbo before turning off the engine.

my van made a few odd rumbling noises when starting and turned out it was the air conditioning, I switched it off b4 starting and never happened again.
maybe something like that still running??

I was thinking that at the weekend, I remembered I had Air Con and switched it on for the first time :D

I was wondering maybe it wasn't switching off.

I'll have a closer look.

Yes I think it us the air con as the system needs to balance itself within the van/ unit. You should use the air con at least once per week to keep the air from going stale and it is good for the pump etc.
My Audi does this frequently with motors running etc when the engine is off.

How would you tell if the Air Con was not switching off? is it even a possibility?

There will be a drive belt from crank to aircon motor which will drive the aircondenser unit all the time when engine is running.
Its doing no harm running and is just regulating itself after a run. Dont think the fuse will be individual and wont have any effect.
Sure it might heat up in Antrim and the air con is required.:-)

So you reckon this is going to happen whether the air con has been on or not? so why does Simon's only do it after he has had his air con running?

Just a thought but does the aircon actually work, if the system needs recharging it may cause it to make a noise as its not pumping anything around the system?

Cant hear it with engine running, I'll get a listen with bonnet open. It was hard to do at 60 MPH ;)

could it be the EGR valve, some purge themselves after engine shutdown apparently.
my Jeep makes a noise after shutdown but i have never looked to see what causes it but its on the off side wing near headlight. :(
